Headlight Washer

Am I right in thinking that when the washer bottle is empty that the Headlight Washers don't pop out, or should they pop out but not spray?

Cheers.

the headlight washers dont work once the level in the bottle goes below a certian amount, something to do with the pressure or something i think

That's good to hear, I thought they'd packed up, although it's under warranty. Off to VW tomorrow then for some screen wash.

Make sure you get the stuff in the white bottle, as it's designed for the fan jets.

Don't get the blue bottle.

I've got the part number (if that's what you want to call it) in my VW book, it says that they only recommend that one for the "fan" jets, the guy I spoke to on the phone says he only recommends their stuff as well, but I'll make sure it's a white bottle.

Cheers guys for re-assuring me :D

That's why I love this website

Got some screen wash today, how much do I put in of water and how much of screenwash? As VW were about as much use as a chocolate fireguard, all they told me was it says on the back, yeah course it does, that's why I asked! There's a few drawings but I can't make out what they mean.

Anyone able to help?

Depends on how empty your reservoir is. I'd just put a generous measure of screenwash in and fill the rest with water.

That should do. 8)

I think that on the back of the bottle there are some little pictures of how much to dilute the screenwash depending on the kind of temperatures that you will be operating in. So if you're in Norway or somewhere bloody cold like that, you'd have maybe 2/3rds screenwash to 1/3rds water (I think the little picture will show two teardrop symbols and a temperature, eg. -25º). If I remember rightly, I put got a plastic jug out when I refilled mine and filled it with a little over a quarter of screenwash and then the rest with water, and poured that in. Repeated if necessary! Roughly 1/3rds screenwash to 2/3rds water should give protection up to about -15º or so IIRC, correct me if I'm wrong :)

If you want to be really precise with your measurements the bottle has got markings down the side to show you how much is left in the bottle

The GTi has got a bigger screenwash reservoir than the other models because of the headlight washers, I think it's something like 6 or 6.5 litres :o so you could use quite a bit of 'wash topping it up at this time of year :)

Cheers

whats the part number for the right screenwash guys?

The part number for the screenwash is G 052 164 A2, which is the litre-sized bottle with a bluey/torquoisey screw top. Having dug out the spare bottle from the boot I've also taken a shot of the label on the back to clear things up, as I had it a little wrong in my previous post  (terrible memory):

Image

At the bottom of the label there you can see four little pictures which explain the concentration you need for various conditions. On the left, two parts screenwash to one part water gives protection up to -40º, then moving in order through the images, 1:1 ratio = -35º, one part screenwash to 2 parts water is -16º (this is roughly the level that I use) and one part screenwash to four parts water is summer running I guess!

HTH :D

Yeah it's smells great, kinda lemony. I used to buy Halfords lemon scented screenwash, and when you used it i'd swear it was like spraying a Smirnoff Ice.

The smell was identical.
