Nice car, mate - where did you find those rims?

I picked up a 1.4SE a couple of months ago. Black, 'Melbourne' alloys, fogs, sports suspension. Everything else standard.

How are you finding yours? I've had "some problems" and am trying to find out if they're typical.

Have you looked on the underside of the ciggie tray yet??

Got the rims from a place called R-Tec.

Yours sounds nice mate :)

Seems ok so far, done 12,000 miles as well.
What are the problems you have had??

You've got me curious about the ciggie tray! Don't make me go out to the car to look at 2:40am!

They look really good on it. Just noticed your calipers

Found it yet? At least it's hidden away somewhere that no one will ever know... (And why does the tray light up??? I can understand the lighter being lit, but the actual tray?? Why??)

(Gotta love the blue and red lighting though. Me? Going driving at night just to bask in its glow? You must be mistaken!)

My problems have been many and varied, the "highlights" include:

> Bonnet on its hinges squint - large overhang above passenger side headlights, small on driver side, VW badge (the important bit) not sitting centrally in its "cut out" in the bonnet leading edge

> Driver's door didn't shut flush with the glass of the rear side window. Still doesn't but it's better than it was, and at least they've adjusted the passenger so it's the same.

> Lots of rattles from the dashboard. It's been packed with foam but still rattles, will have to come out.

> This is the best one - Handprints (as in - lots of perfect images of the palm of someone's hand  ) all the way along the part of the boot sill formed by the back bumper. Bumper had to be re-sprayed as they were too deep to polish out.

I'm dumping it at the garage again tomorrow to fix more problems with the paint, but they're down to the garage's incompetence, rather than a VW problem.

Still, you've got to love that engine note when it's cold. 8) But I doubt screaming away from the drive each morning can be good for it, but it never fails to bring one big grin to my face.

Despite all the problems, I still love it - it's my baby. :D

Trouble is, I'm seeing quite a few about already, and most of the ones in the showroom now have my alloys on them - I can sense my first mod coming on...

Looking good!

I've not seen any modded new-polo's around yet, so it's nice to see what can be done.

Can't wait to see it once it's been lowered!

I really like the look of it with the tints... Can't really see the pillar, looks like one long window along the sides (bit like the new Seat Leon - Cool)

NOTE: Please don't make any references to technical aspects of the "Watchdog-Gate" problem. We know how they do it, but don't want to advertise it.
All I can say is DELOCK! (Get some rear door handles from a 5 door!)

dxg, Yeh done the front calipers but then couldn't be bothered to do the rears, spose I should do to show off the rear discs :D

Yeh just been out to look at the cigge tray, strange about it lighting up, never seen that before.
(Gotta love the blue and red lighting though. Me? Going driving at night just to bask in its glow? You must be mistaken!)
YES! I love them, when my dad goes out in my car at night he dims the lights right down, I have them the brightest they go! :D When you look in from the outside at night, all you can see is a blue glow from inside the car - looks pukka :D

Not had any of those probs you have mentioned, the only thing I have noticed in the past week or so is that my front offside suspension has started to squeak!

I'm not entirely sure what the "Watchdog problem" is to be honest - ie, not sure how it's done, but I did see the programme.

Yeh agree with the cold engine comment :D When cold and you floor it (you shudn't I know ;)) its fairly nippy, then as it starts to heat up it becomes "slower" :(

Love mine too :D Can't wait for my next few mods 8) 8)

Yeh there are quite a few about now! That's why I'm glad mine looks a bit different!

Where abouts are you from btw?

Josh, thanks mate :)

I can't wait until it is lowered!!! Got a new grille sitting on my floor, no good though 'cos it was broken when I opened the parcel :( :(

Going to colour code the mirrors, side strips, and door handles soon.
Was just going to buy some silver handles as I don't fancy spraying them myself, I could do the rest easy - well my dad could, not me

Unfortunatly not got remote central locking so can't de-lock it :(

I wasn't sure about doing the tints - didn't want to make it look too "Novaish" but I do luv em now.

Cheers lads...Mole

Josh - point taken about the Watchdog problem - see editing above.

I'm not entirely clear about the hows, let alone the whys of it, but will be having a word with the garage tomorrow to see what can be done.

Mole - did you notice the non-VW logo on the underside of the tray, though?? (At least it's not a Skoda one)

I've noticed this too.

I've also got a bit of a dead spot around 3000 rpm :( . Seems to be that the emu's trying to decide if I'm still pottering around town or looking for more "spirited" movement. Don't know if that's normal, it's not like its a VTEC or anything. But, by the time I've hit 4k and continuing to climb, I'm well past caring!! :P
Where abouts are you from btw?
I'm in Loughborough - there are quite a few around here. Also see a lot on the M1/M69 commute.

dxg Yeh there is a bit of a flat spot at about 3000 on mine too :x

Yeh I did notice the "non VW logo", seen them all over it! Just not there before you said :D

Josh

Not a very interesting story but here goes:
My dad used to have an old V8 LandRover we used for off-roading, it used to dig holes with the wheels, and we nicknamed it "The Mole".... Somehow I ended up with it! [/b]

Are we talking about Seat logos?

My GTi was built in Spain, so was my 1999 1.4 CL

That's how it goes!

On the fuel pipe that goes from the filler to the tank there is one :)
On the engine cover theres one I think :)

The interior is made in spain too!
