I couldn't find a guide to replacing the Side Repeaters on the GTi, I was thinking of either getting these ones

or these ones

but don't know how to remove the ones on there at the minute, they've got a bit of condensation in them.

Which ones does everyone think are better?

I bought the top ones mate. They look more modern.

I'm sure you push the light towards the front of the car and it pulls out at the back or vice versa. I can't remember for sure.

It'll tell you in the handbook though.

Where did you get them from mate? And did they supply the silver looking bulbs?

The top ones are the design that VW have been using since about 2002, and the bottom ones were inuse before that. I've got a pair of the top ones which I've yet to fit, my standard ones (which look like the ones in the second pic) are showing their age and are going a bit yellow

I think you will have to source the silvatec bulbs seperately, I myself have just got two brand new orange bulbs to go in, they don't show too badly with these repeaters. As for fitting, this might help:

Ok, yes, they do come with bulbs yup! and how to change, quite easy. Imagine that you dont have one in the wing right now and your looking at a hole in the wing where you are going to fit the new one.

The new one has a plastic 'tab' or clip if you like sticking out one end and a hook the other end.

You stick the front end in the hole, this is the end that has the hook, then you push the back into the wing so that the tab flips out behind the wing to keep it in place in the hole. Does that make sense? hope I've explained that well?

So to remove the old ones, you need to compress this tab so you can pull the old one out. 50% of the time, this tab breaks off when you pull on it! so its quite easy to do.

one VERY inportant point to note. When you pull the old ones out, the wiring loom MUST NOT be allowed to fall back through the hole in the wing!!! If it does, then you'll have to strip out the arch liner to get the loom back through the hole again!!

Don't have a picture of this though, anyone else?? try asking in the main forum Si...

As I say I haven't gotten round to this yet, I'm gonna do it when my Dad's about so that he can look after the wiring loom and make sure it doesn't drop inside the wing

I've been in that situation before, luckily it was outside the shop and he had some funky little claw thing that reached it for us
