Not sure where to post this but General it is.
Is it better to buy a Mk5 or a Mk4 from the money side of things?
I know buying it is more expensive but will I save money on the repairs that I wont have to do to a Mk4?
Also is there any real difference in fuel economy? In real life not on paper?

personal opinion but the mk5 is a much 'newer' car than the mk4.

Which is why i think the extra few grand will be saved in the long run through fewer repairs and better fuel consumption.
A decent condition Mk4 goes for about £1900 but then needs about £600 spent on repairing it, Cam Belt etc.
but Mk5's are going for the lower end of the £3000 mark

personally i'd go for a mk5 as jon said its far more modern than the mk4! that is unless i could get a good mk4 1.4 16v coz these r a blast!!
and i saw a mint looking 1.4 mk4 p reg with 70k odd on the clock for £1700. looked very nice indeed!!

Only 1L tho... Your looking at paying 4K at least for a decent example without silly miles and an engine that will do more than 60mph
