Morning Yes another Newbie here, sorry.
I have a 1995 6n 1.4l 8v wth 135k on the clock and she's still runing ok, just. Owned it since 44K.
However recently I've noticed 2 noises,
First a wining noise from low in the car, especially audiable under engine braking or heavy acceleraton.
Goes away when the clutch pedal is down retrns when clutch is up. Release bearing?
I suspect it's got a gearbox oil problem too.
The second noise appears to be from the auxillary belt tensioner. I odly have power steering (and Airbag in an L model)
I can get the engine changed for a newer one (50k) with clutch fitted for 300. Is it worth doing or should I just get the clutch done for 200. It;s had three Timing belts and 1 head gasget. it's getting old and I need it to keep going. Thanks in advance.

I had a whining noise from mine until I had the cam belt replaced (79K on original belt!) Did you have the tensioner relplaced at the same time? The grease can dry up in them and they start to sing then, in extreme cases they can sieze. 135k miles is good going, the gearboxes aren't as strong as the 020 on the bigger engines. My next job is to replace the oil with fully synthetic makes a big difference on frosty mornings!
