Very minor strange issue, probably nothing last took the car for a quick spin it was kangarooing for abt 1 min 1st and 2nd gear.

Any idea what this was people ?

Last time I drove the car was Sunday could be the cold ?

Think its just the cold, alot of cars do this when they are cold. As long as it runs smooth after 15-20mins nothing to worry about m8.

There was a letter to PVW magazine a few issues back where a Polo GTi owner wrote in to complain that in traffic and when using 1st and 2nd gears he found it really difficult to move away and roll in traffic smoothly, he kept getting the kangarooing when moving at low speeds.

PVW suggested that it is simply a characteristic of this particular model, with it's comparitively heavy clutch and light accelerator pedal actions. I myself sometimes have a bit of a "moment" where I kangaroo slightly because I've not been steady enough with the clutch or the gas, just happens! 90% of the time though, it's fine, you get used to driving the car and adapting to how it behaves so the kangarooing eliminates itself in a way.

Bottom line is that it's 'nout to worry about, as Gav points out. It is a bit embarrassing sometimes though to bunny hop a little bit in the town centre traffic

hahah i thought this was just me !!!

Glad to know im not the only one this has happened to, i found that if you really really slowly accelerate in 1st gear you'll be fine, but try and keep 1st gear at a low constant speed and eventually you bunny hop down the road !!!

Also i found that if you pull away in 1st gear and dont accelerate at all the car nicely purrs along at a constant speed, then put it into 2nd without accelerating and u pick up some speed, its great for being in a traffic jam. . no need to accelerate just use the Ole Clutch !!

i hate how my polo keeps jumping around when trying to set off!

Theres more torque in a tin opener than a polo gti!!!

Had mine now for a few weeks and am getting really miffed with it!!

Some of you have said it is the cold but mine only starts pi##ing me off when it gets up to temp!!!

Whats everyone elses like!!! And what other cars have you all driven to compare this litte gti too????

Ive driven alot of cars and i actually think the gti has quite a bit of torque. I do think the gears / clutch takes a bit of getting used to though

I'm glad its not just me then. For ages I've found find it a tricky car to control in slow moving traffic. The main thing I find is that when i come off the gas in first or second gear the engine braking really kicks in hard rather than it slowly decreasing in speed. Because it does this you then find yourself touching the gas pedal and it bolts forward instead of increaseing in speed slowly. its pretty annoying when you've got people in the car probaly thinking to themselves that you cant drive for s**t

tell me abt it felt infront of my passenges o well, still love my GTi tho.....

I find it likes you to give it some gas before you move off as well, doesn't like pulling off at low rpm too much.

hi mate,

the clutch (including plate, housing, bearing) was £89+vat
and the fitting is costing £140+vat from a local vw specialist
