Ok, it might not even be out yet here, but some German tuners have extracted up to 300bhp and 300 lb ft of torque out of it 8) Serious tuning work, and impressive performance, 0-60 in 5.8seconds, top speed of 155mph+.

Crazy stuff, I think they should have used the 225bhp engine from the TT instead of a lesser powered one (for the Standard GTi)

Are there many mechanical differences in the different 1.8T engines then? I thought it was mostly down to ECU tuning.

Agreed though, 150 isn't enough, they need at least 200bhp 8)

Bigger turbo and intercooler are the main differences. There are other differences but I'm too lazy to go look them up right now

Ok I decided to not be lazy

= Compression ratio 9.5 vs 9.3
= Turbocharger K03-11 vs K04-23
= Engine management ME3.8.3 vs ME7.5
= Exhaust manifold
= Intercooling 1 vs 2
= Cylinder head large ports vs small ports
non-vvt vs vvt
= Exhaust system 54mm vs 63mm
= Injectors 285cc vs 385cc

It is however possible to build the GTI to make similiar horsepower, the following is required :

- Upgrade turbocharger (K04-01 from turboexchange)
- Upgraded ECU software (from you know who )
- Upgraded exhaust system (63mm minimum)
- Upgraded intercooler (front mount)

Forgot to mention that the pistons also differ, to give the different compression, so to get the same compression, you'd need to change those too

The above comparison is between the two engines is comparing the 225bhp version against the older non-vvt big valve engine. The new Polo will have the small valve version with vvt and Ko3s turbo which means 220-230bhp just from a remap.

Yep, the two engines I quoted were the old 110kW GTI motor vs the 165kW S3/TT engine

Hey roadhawg.

I had planned on getting to the dyno just after lunch, but unluckily, my morning filled up pretty quick and ran over till about 3:30...which was a bit late to be driving from the west to KAR.

Saw your post on the VW club forums about the dyno giving the diesels funny results...
