What a car! Polo GTi

Howdy

As a new member and new GTi owner i'd like to say two things:

1- Cracking website! Never thought i'd find anything this professional. A credit to you all!!

and........

2- What a car!!! If only I'd have found about the polo's talents before buying and losing alot of money on a mini cooper convertible. The engine pulls from tickover and has a fantastic growl. Im well happy as you can probably tell!

I purchased a red 2001 'Y' 3 Door GTi with 48k on the clock for £5k. It is immaculate, well looked after and has full vw service history. How does that sound, price wise? It has been lowered on eibach springs and is running on 17" bbs replicas from wheelbase. I'm not sure about the wheels yet. Dont get me wrong, they look awesome but the ride is very harsh with them after driving a few standard GTi's.

Be honest!

Cheers,

Macca

P.S. How do I post a photo of the GTi?[/list]

Hello mate, welcome to the club! Glad to hear you're enjoying your new car, hope youhave many trouble-free miles in her!

It's not this one is it?

Image

One of the other members mentioned it in another thread  here

Looks smart! IMHO the 17"s are too large for the car, but that's just my opinion and if you're happy enough to keep them on, then go for it!

If you want to post images of your pride and joy, upload them to somewhere like www.imageshack.us, and then put the resulting link (the one at the bottom of the page, "direct link to image") in between the image tags to display the picture. You will end up with something like this:

^^ That's the link for the picture above, just take the spaces out of the img tags :)

Cheers

Yea I was looking at that not long ago.. wheels are far too big though.. I went from 17s to 15s and the difference is amazing.. if you think its fast now.. get some BBS RXIIs on it in 15" and then see!

speaking abt bbs RXII ive read on here they are quite heavy, started me thinking of getting some lighter wheels, but the orginal wheels suit the car so much......

Cheers guys.

It is the car mentioned in the past thread. Haggled him down!

Just been for another burn! Loving every minute of it!

Im definately going to think about some smaller wheels and want to keep it looking original as possible. Do BBs do the original rim in 16"?

Well, they do... but they're very difficult to track down if you want the true BBS RX2 16" rims, they were only fitted to the Golf Cabriolet, cyhliu has got them on his Polo GTi, they look subtle but really cool all the same! The alternative, is that the BBS alloy comes as a single-piece alloy as well, the RX, which might be easier to find. Try eBay? Most of these wheels are 5-stud though, from Golfs. Good luck if you decide to buy a set!

The RXII are nice wheels but an absolute bastard to clean I find, mainly because of the bolts. I usually end up with a very sore finger, but the results are worth it.

Oh and welcome to the Site and the GTi club, they are very nice cars you're right :D Enjoy.

I was also interested in that car - he said there was someone interested in it who was haggling him down. Did you get him down 500 quid then? - that's some top bartering! I never went to see it in the end as I told him to ring me if he didnt sell (he didnt ring)

still looking for my perfect car to buy!!!

by the way - I called our local dealer to make sure it had had both recalls, and check the service history, and it was only down as having one of the 2. Make sure you take it in to get the second recall done!!

Both recalls  just got my GTi abt a month old checked about the pedal box recall, that was done and they said the car had no outstanding recalls, which is the other :?:

Hi M6TT F

Sorry you missed out on the car. It is a cracker. Good luck with the search. There is a nice silver 3 door GTi down near london in the trader. The bloke seemed genuine enough on the phone and told me the car was immaculate.

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/ca ... ull=SEARCH

It's the car at the top.

Cheers for the advice mate. Do you know which recall it had done?

There are a couple of tiny little problems with her though. See if anyone has had/got any similar:
1- Drivers side window rises very slowly and feels as if it is rubbing on the seals?
and..........
2- Rear water jet doesn't seem to work?
