Ok, reading your FAQ's on the Mk4 ( 6N ) Polo, you dont have the engine size as 1.3, looking in my Haynes manual it doesnt have anything to do with a 1.3 engine,

I have a 5dr 1.3L , is this odd, or not common as i cant find any.

1.3 6ns while not being especially rare are not the most common model either as they were only available for twelve months or so before being superceeded by the 1400. Despite popular belief they are not the same engine as the mk3 as they have a shorter stroke and larger bore (^N 1296 c.c., mk2/3 1272 c.c.).

I've got one on 100k and the bugger still refuses to return less than 40 mpg or use more than the merest smidgen of oil over 10k :D 8)

got 88,000 miles on mine,

Not modded at all, nor body kits, the only ICE is the standard tape player that came with the car and a rather dodgy starter motor which im about to replace.

Will try and get some photos up for interest.

yes, engine is the only difference, but it's not that easy to 'swap' a 1.3 and put in a 1.4, since the 1.3 uses a Bosch computer and the 1.4 a Magneti Marelli one. This also means that for instance the fuel-pump is different, and so is the dash.
So it's not a straight which of engines, you'll have to replace almost everything to make it work

Jarno I was not planning an engine swap I was just wondering if there is a reason to avoid 1.3s. Eg. 1.3 has dodgey breaks (this is made up example)

Ok, then I got your question wrong. But yes, other then the engine, both Polo's are the same (brakes on 1.6 are bit 'better', but this only because it's a faster and heavier car, so it needs better braking, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the brakes of the 1.3  )

No reason to avoid 1300s (especially Apricot ones :P ).

Are 1.3 engines slow 1.3's or fast 1.3's??
