Help, i've got a leakage in the rear of the car. I have no idea where it's coming from, but the boot floor was wet, not puddles, but was still wet. It's soaked into the carpet too, and i think theirs live wires lieing in the boot somewhere because the previous owner had an amp in. Thank god the battery is out, i'll be sealing the cables off tomorow.

However, how can i find out where the car is leaking from? The car is all mouldy inside too Left over x-mas, it's been parked up a month.

Does water leak through the glass and the metal on these cars? I thought they are sealed into the bootlid?

For now, put a big bowl of salt in there. Stop it getting wetter and mouldier. Then I would just have a really good look round rubber seals on the bootlid, check for any horror-holes in the bodywork too.

yea, check the seals around the boot, windows, doors, the rear light seals, etc and in your engine bay under the battery and where the fuse box is...

The good thing is is that their is absolutely no rust under the battery (Thank god, and touch wood it doesn't start to rust either).

The only bits rusty are various bolts and nuts on the car. I also noticed how rusty the screws under the number plate were today. Almost looks like their not their, it's totally rotten into the screws.

Is it wise to remove rusty screws/bolts and replace them with newer ones? Any chance of the rust spreading from the screw onto anywhere on the body?

Strip the carpet out and the plastic boot cover and get in the boot. Get someone to spray a hose over the bacl to see where it's coming from.

Common mk 3 leaks in the rear are usually from:

Boot rubber seal
Light seals Or the panel damaged behind them so they dont seal well.
Sliding Sunroof drain channel pipes blocked

I would make sure those screws havent corroded too badly anyway.
