Hi all,
My wife has a 2001 Polo GTi and it has a few anomilies I wanted to run past you guys.

The pedal box was replaced under warranty just before we got the car, but it still feels a little sticky to me - is this normal?

The main concern is that the car occasionally locks itself for no apparent reason! You unlock the car, and then about 20 seconds later it locks itself.
This once ended up locking my 7 week old daughter in the car for an hour until the AA came and got her out (it took him about 10 seconds to get in with no damage at all which is a little worrying!)

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Cheers

Chris

Hi and welcome to the forum, that must of been an nasty experience with your young daughter.

The alarm activates itself if you do not place the key in the ignition......

My parent's previous Bora, a '99 model, had a central-locking "convenience" feature that can be enabled (and therefore disabled) using VAG-COM or similar. Sounds similar, the doors locked after about 20-30 seconds. It meant that whilst you were loading stuff into the boot after having gone shopping, the car would keep locking itself and then alarming because the boot was still open! :x

If it is this same "convenience" feature, you should be able to get it disabled at your local dealership (at cost, sadly) or by a fellow enthusiast local to you who has a VAG-COM of their own.

Welcome to UK-P :)

sounds more like a fault to me, as all the alarm on the gti does is relock the car if you unlock using the fob and the no doors get opened, one a door has been opened it wont relock as i understand it

Dunno, it's happened with mine, I've unlocked it left it while talking, then when I went to get in it found that it was locked.

And welcome to the site.

The only time mine does it is if I unlock the car, then don't open any doors. If no doors are opened for about 30 seconds the car locks itself again.

1.0E didn't have central locking.

Less things to go wrong though, and saving weight :D

thats what i was saying, the same as si gti, the only time it relocks is if nothing has been opened, which is why i was saying it may be a fault

Hi guys,
Cheers for the advice - I think it is probably best to get it booked into the local stealer and see what they think.
I guess it is feasible that my wife did something wrong and pressed the lock button by mistake, but it is pretty unlikely I think.

Any other GTi foibles I should be aware of?!

Cheers

If the car is unlocked and no entry is made the car automatically locks, this is a standard feature. Designed so that you dont put the keys in your pocket, after locking and unlock the car then walk off...
