Time to think about changing my brakes

All,
It'll soon be time to get some new front brake discs fitted to my car, and I figured it'd be a good time to replace the pads all round whilst things are in pieces! There's not a lot wrong with the current setup - no abnormal noises, no fade, fresh brake fluid at the last service - but that last service revealed "some light rusting on the front discs" (VW's service report) and I haven't changed the pads since I've had the car, which is a little over two years now.
So, I'd like some advice on the possible options, and hear from those of you who have changed your discs and/or pads and what you think of your new kit?
Option 1: standard discs, standard pads. *yawn*
Option 2: standard discs, performance pads.
Option 3: G60 discs (front), performance pads.
Option 4: performance discs, performance pads.
My favoured option at the moment is to convert to G60 front discs but I'm open to arguments for or against them, so fire away!
By the way, does anyone know of any stockists for Pagid fast road pads or are they discontinued now?

I went for option 4 mate. Brembo Max Grooved with Green Stuff pads. Noticeable difference in stopping power, big improvement over standard.
I think you can get Pagid pads from GSF. I know they used to stock them.

G60 seems to be fav at the mo but i dont have a bad word to say about my black diamond combi discs and black diamond preditor pads!
Best thing the leave hardly any brake dust behind!!

G60 Performance Disk! Tarox disk look sexy, but pricey. Those Brembos look good too.

Second that! black diamond grooved and drilled all round, there great!

When my discs needed replaced I went for 280mm VAG G60 discs with pagid fast road pads, they are superb they knock speed off alot quicker than the standard set up and I have yet to get them to fade.
Got the discs and new carriers from vag parts for under £200 (its a nightmare trying to sorce 2nd hand carriers as its a common mod on a Mk2 Golf) and the pads from GSF (

I think thats what I will end up doing to be honest, sometime around about July/August. New G60 setup on the front and new Pagid pads all round keeping the existing rear discs, which haven't seen much wear so far (when compared to the fronts!).

go for the G60 upgrade , as it will allow you to brake later into the corners if you do any track day and it fill the up the space behide the bbs wheels better

Is it worth changing the rear discs for new OEM items whilst in the process of upgrading the fronts and all the pads? They have been on the car for nearly 6 years now after all!

i would say no point in upgrading the rear brake as the polo is such a small and light car and most of the braking come from the front one , if it was a heavy car i would sugget upgrading the rears
if you feel you need the rear replaced just get standard disc and pads

I did the back discs and pads at the same time, I was still running the cars original discs on the front and discs/pads on the back with 60k on the clock. If the surface of the rear discs are smooth I would just replace the back pads at the same time of the fronts. I had to do the discs on mine as the rear drivers side disc was very badly scored on the inside when the pad broke into bits.

A big bump I know, but I've been looking again at my options with new brakes - it will be time to splash the cash soon!
I'm sort of in two minds whether or not to go for G60 brakes on the front - the standard brakes do the job just fine for me at the moment - but I can certainly see the benefits in fitting the upgraded G60 setup but staying with standard brake discs means much less cost and hassle! If I up the power of the car with, for example, an induction kit and custom code, then better brakes will be a target for sure but thats some way off.
Thought I might speak to John @ 2modified to see what he has to offer as replacements for the front discs but have also asked VAGparts for a quote on the OEM discs.
I will definitely be upgrading the brake pads to Pagid fast road pads all round though, once I've been paid the order will go in to GSF and they will be fitted once I've sorted out the discs!

If i was going to buy upgraded discs/pads for front & pads for rear (new OEM discs for rear aswell). But didn't go the G60 route, what would be the best to get
