Making your Gti faster...

Been reading for about a year now but this is my first post.
We have a w-plate red - the fastest! - gti. Had it about a year now, and apart from the usual problems with corroding alloys - surely vw should issue compensation for the huge numbers of alloys being refurbed? - it's been a great year. The problem is the recently changed our other car from a 1.8 passat to a 2.3 turbo saab 9-5 aero with 230-oddbhp. The knock on effect is that the polo now feels a bit slow, and mrs frazzle - who drives the polo - has given me the go ahead to price a few mods that would give the car a bit more oomph.
Suspension short shifters etc are out - we're just talking about mods that will give the car a bit more responsiveness.
So the question is - if you had between £500 - £1000 - what would you do to make your gti faster?
