Making your Gti faster...

Been reading for about a year now but this is my first post.

We have a w-plate red - the fastest! - gti. Had it about a year now, and apart from the usual problems with corroding alloys - surely vw should issue compensation for the huge numbers of alloys being refurbed? - it's been a great year. The problem is the recently changed our other car from a 1.8 passat to a 2.3 turbo saab 9-5 aero with 230-oddbhp. The knock on effect is that the polo now feels a bit slow, and mrs frazzle - who drives the polo - has given me the go ahead to price a few mods that would give the car a bit more oomph. :) Suspension short shifters etc are out - we're just talking about mods that will give the car a bit more responsiveness.

So the question is - if you had between £500 - £1000 - what would you do to make your gti faster?

lexus lights, heard you get 10 more bhp

on a more serious note welcome 2 the forum, and £500-£1k, you could get a s/s exhaust with decat £400 tops i reckon, bmc air filter £150
remap, a good one will set you back anything upto say £350
thats the maximum those parts will cost imo

and then you can burn £100 worth off 98 ron fuel for the next two weeks :D

To be honest with the amount of money you have to spend the above is a good start but it wont set the world alight with BHP!

12-14 BHP extra which compared to your saab you might aswell save it!!

Has anyone turbo/super charged this engine before?

Wonder what that would be like 8)

I saw a mk4 with a turbo'd 1.6 16v gti engine on ebay.de, apparently it was one of 100 that was made by VW...
Would be so fun!
