VVT, I've seen it mentioned a couple of times, but having no knowledge about engines I have no idea what it means/is I've read that you can hear the sound of it?

Can anyone enlighten me?

I did think thats what it may stand for, I just wondered what it does though, and the reason it sounds different.

Interesting read. Lots of facts on the site. The stuff about GM is well interesting... being a Vx fan.

Having read that article you should have all the info you need.

In the Polo the VVT starts kicking in at around 3500 rpm, and the valves are fully open at around 5750 rpm. If you listen carefully when you take the car up the rev range, the noise of the engine gets louder and changes pitch over 4k to 5.5k, it sorta steps up a level and you get a slight burst in power. I love that sound

I f you listen to mine, the changeover is even more obvious! Above 4k the sound of my new exhaust changes completely

something to do with variable valve timing & lift....what i found on google

I had to go out earlier just to have a listen, I love the sound it makes.

I've heard it plenty of times before but after reading it makes it sound better

As well as high up the rev range, I like it down at 2-3k aswell, I think it sounds quite throaty.

you should hear the vvt with a bmc fitted

Do they sound anything like the Civic Type R with the BMC on?

dragging this thread up about but...yes is does give it similar sound to a type r, depends how you set the BMC up though using the standard air intake IMO its not noticable, but removing all the standard piping and putting some nice large diameter piping to the drivers side front arch (where I settled to put mine after trying lots of different places) the sound is glorious. You get the most lovely deep growl down below and the Vtec style (well as close as you can get in a no Vtec style engine) sound at top of the rev range, makes the car much smoother and more willing to rev to, don't think I could go back to having it standard
I might try and get some sound recordings of the BMC, it sounds so good if set up properly

yea its all about the change of tone of thr BMC

i love its growl that changes intoa ROAR after 4.5k haha :-p
