Hi Ya Josh, Must say That the web site looks sweet and have already got loads of useful knowledge about my polo GTI I've just brought about month ago. However, The car has already fallen into the VW dearlers hands (must admit expected alot more from VW than this) for the clutch and pedal box, pressure plate, clutch cable had to be replaced just like yours was, luckily it was under warranty as it was built in 2001. What Id like to know is now yours has been repaired how does the clutch feel ? and do you belive that volkswagen have rectified the flakey build quality of the original pedal box fitted and that the new one will last the life of the car. As if this was to happen again it would be a costly repair out of warranty i'm sure you would agree. Having seen that their a few common faults associated with the GTI it makes me worry about the gearbox another problem you've experienced. Can you describe the symtoms of this to me and what mileage did it go at so as i know what to look out for and can be quick to take it to the garage, hopefully still under warranty. Sorry for the long message but I'm in a slight state of shock and disappointment as you dont expect to buy a new car and suffer this kinda thing already. Anyway, would appreciate a response and look forward to talking to all rest of you polo dubbers in the future.[/b]

Hi there...

Just a quick response tonight (I'm knackered!)...

My clutch has been fine since all this got replaced. Unfortunately I didn't ask them whether any improvements have been made to the design. Maybe you could ask your dealers?

With regard to my Gearbox, I had a whine noise in 1st gear... That was it.

They replaced the GB, and the new gearbox had the same noise, but not just in 1st, but now in 1st and 2nd gears!!!

They replaced it again, and it's been fine since.

Other things to watch out for are squeeky seats, dripping rear wash pipe in the boot (corroding the boot lock switch which sets off the alarm at 3am!), headlights needing adjustment (they should be the best lights you've ever had on a car!)...

Good Luck! You'll love your GTi!

:D
