hi

just wondered if anyone else has a high pitched noise in fifth gear?
it only appears in fifth and goes away when i depress the clutch

any ideas?

my car is a 2000 x

69k

new belts, pump, tensioners @ 60k

new gearbox @ 30k

I also get a high pitched noise in 5th on my GTI, starts around 60mph then get louder and louder. If i put slight pressure on the gearstick with my hand or even just a finger on it it goes away. With the gaiter removed it is much louder, like a high pitched buzz but I cant locate where it is coming from. Any ideas?

My old mk4 did this, my mates KA does it too...couldn't explain it though
