In my 9N ive noticed a howling noise when u turn the steering. I kinda like the noise

and never took any notice of it. Ive temporarily got a MK7 1.2E and this one doesnt do it?!? Is this something wrong in mine?!? or is it a noise made by something else?
Any1 else got this?!?
only thing is mine has aircon, climatronic and all them gizmos, and the MK7 i have has not got none. So may be its linked to this?!?? Any ideas?

lol. its not very loud, only if you have your stereo off and its very quiet inside the car, as my engine sounds as if its switched off when idle or moving at slow speeds

, and yes its at parking speed only i think.

yep that noise is very normal mate, if its only at parking speeds! my old mk5 used to do it, and my mums 1.2 mk6 does it, and my ibiza, well i think it does, but as somebody said before, its difficult to hear over the engine noise!!
its basically where the power steering is having to work harder to turn the wheels.
if u think, in non power steering cars, its usually quite difficult to turn the wheel at low speeds* and this is what power steering eliminates!
*especially hard if u've been driving cars with power steering for a while!!

Not sure about a howling noise.. but after after a low speed crash where another car went in the front left wing of my polo, the steering started making a whirring noise. And I asked the repair shop they said it was the power steering motors straining against something. I suspect something got bent as the front left wheel took the brunt of this other car.
After the repair the whiring noise went away. Its the same whirring noise you get when you put full lock on and keep holding the wheel there, but was happening even under normal turning. The polo courtesy I had while mine was in the shop didnt make the noise either.

my mk6 has never been in a accident though

. Just the minor rear end one, which i doubt done it. I dont think it sounds like the wine on full lock but ill listen to it again later today.
