My 1.9tdipd is setup for longlife servicing, and is due for a service by at latest - aug07. If i change the oil and filter myself (i always like to change the oil in my cars at 6 month intervals), will this upset the cars servicing schedule, and make it request a service later or sooner.. :?:

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, but what is this longlife servicing all about, I noticed a sticker on my new Golf saying it was set up for LLS. Does this mean the service intervals are further apart?

Thanks Matt

It allows the car to tell you when it needs servicing. Upto a max of 2years or 30000miles on diesels, as far as im aware... :D

Hi Buzby

My last car was almost identical to your current car (nice!) and I didn't have a service or oil change from leaving the garage brand new until 22,500 miles. The car was set for long life servicing and it only used about 1 litre of oil in all those miles. The oil is designed for long life servicing - it costs enough!

I used to change my oil and filters every 6,000 miles but I think it would just be money down the drain given new technologies - guess that's your decision though. For the record, I have never had any problem following the long life route and the first service was only £150.

veedub-ally.... Your right because today i found out how much the oil is (ahem) expensive aint it..

I dont think ill get to 22000 between services though, as I do more stopstart than go go driving :D.

The last owner got to 18000 before a service, so the oils only done 7000 miles.

Dazza!

Where you been hiding? Need to catch up at the next meet

Fancy servicing my car when it needs it??? That's cheap!

Buzby.... you should easily manage 15,000 miles on stop/start driving. Just keep an eye on the oil level every now and again.

Alistair :)

Hey!

Thanks for the offer - I will keep it in mind. No money just now and still to get the exhaust done - couldn't decide what to get then it was Christmas and I was too busy then no money now! The only other thing to get done is the ICE - standard system is pants.

Pondering a remap maybe in the summer although it is quite nippy as it stands. Still very tight though and only covered 3,000 miles so far.

Sounds like you are offering to organise a meet? Hehe! Hope to catch up soon.

Alistair
