Firstly, what a great site with so much information :D
I purchased my Polo GTi last Saturday from a local dealer for £5500.
Was willing to pay that little bit more as the car was in pristine condition, not a single scratch or dent! 8)
After reading many of the cambelt/pedal box threads I made sure all these problems were sorted before i bought the car. The pedal box recall had been completed and the dealer changed the cambelt and cambelt tensioner.
I had spoken to the dealer about the cambelt tensioner and mentioned about the water pump maybe needing to be changed as well. Turns out the water pump was cracked and was leaking onto the tensioner! so the water pump was also replaced :D
To think that without the information from you guys I would have purchased the car without these problems being sorted and being none the wiser! :(
The alloy wheels have been refurbished and managed to haggle two new front tyres. Spent today changing all the centre caps as the old ones were fading white (£24 from VW mind you :x ) So the wheels are now immaculate and the car looks like its straight off the forecourt......well almost

Cheers mate.
The dealer was a really good bloke and was an ex Vauxhall mechanic. When i mentioned to him about the cambelt and other known issues he sorted them all out with no questions asked. The tracking was slighty out so had wear around the outside of the left front tyre. Again, no haggling, dealer replaced both front tyres.
It comes with a lifetime mechanical warranty  and managed to haggle 12 months Road Tax as well! :D

Hi Dan Gti

Nice to see another newbie like myself! :D

You got a really great price there. I got my car two years ago. Later I noticed it had some work done on one side due to the silver paint being on the rear window rubber and around the edge of the fuel cap rubber too. Not too bad thou and managed to clean most of the paint off. Just recently notice some lacquer coming off round the window.

Yeah i'm a bit scepticle about the 'lifetime' warranty. The dealer said its the best warranty company in the UK. As long as I own the car it has a mechanical warranty. I must make sure the car is serviced regularly and to not go over the mileage when it does need servicing otherwise it voids the warranty

Usually when you buy from a VW Dealer, it comes with 1 years parts and labour warranty.

Sounds a bit strange really, I should imagine they'd lose a fair bit of money if it had a lifetime mechanical warranty?
