Heres my process: (I do a thorough wash like this once every 3 months)

1.) Washed with meguiars gold class shampoo & lambs wool mitt

2.) Dry with chamios

3.) Claybar and then wash + dry the car again (if appropriate)

4.) Polish with AutoGlym super resin polish (if appropriate)

5.) Wax with Meguiars Carnauba wax

6.) Clean plastic and tires with Autoglym Bumper Care

7.) Clean engine bay with Autoglym Silicone Spray

8.) Vac inside and use apholstery foam cleaner on matts where appropriate.

9.) Wax with Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection wax









Its hard to see the extra shine you get from two coats of wax, but the panels feel like glass. The carnauba wax gives a nice shine, but when you put the AG extra gloss protection (which is a polymer wax not a natrual one) it seems to give a glossyier shine.

My car badly needs that. It's covered in tar.

i cleaned my car like that when i first got it...now it gets the "see how fast i can wash it" jobby about once every 3 weeks lol.

maybe i'll find a bit of enthusiasm when it stays clean for more than 10 secs in the summer.

Nah, Claying the car is something you should only do a couple of times per year unless you are using very fine clay.

I wash the car once every 2 weeks or so, If i get chance I wax it. Like i said I do that proceedure every 3 months or so.

Its just off the A659, the building in the shot is harewood house where I believe there was a GTi meet last year but i missed it

Not where I was thinking of then! Yep, VW Festival is the show, I think. Was a good one last year by all accounts, but I couldn't make it either!

Was a pretty decent show last year, so will probs go this year too.

Car is looking good mate. Need to get my hands on some Clay bar. My car has been a little niglected over the winter.

can anyone recommend a claybar kit as i like the idea of only needing to use it twice a year

it does work for old style paint doesn't it? e.g mk2

Meguiars do a thing called "quick clay". You get a pretty good claybar and a detailing spray that doubles up as lubricant for your claybar.

With regards to using it on your mk2. You need to asses what state the paintwork is in before you begin work on it. Prep is the key, if the paintwork is old and has lots of micromaring then you might need to use something like scratch x (similar to T-cut) or another mild cutting compound.

Claybar won't remove things like scratching or tar spots. It will remove tree sap, and contaminents that bond to the paint surface. Best thing to do is give the car a good clean and then dry it. Inspect the paintwork closely, you may have to treat corrosion before you start on the protection side of things (wax etc). This website has been a wealth of information for me:

wheres the best place to get the meguirs quick clay kit? just halfords or does anyone know of cheaper?

just found it for £12.99 yay or neh?

Got mine for about that kind of money from Demon Tweeks. Halfords are rumoured to stock it but my local one doesn't!

That level of car cleanliness makes me feel even more guilty about the fact mine hasn't been washed for nearly a month now

Harewood House brings back some good memories as well. And also some not so good memories of sun burn.

is it me or does the back end of your car look abnormally high?
