Ok,

Found this really nice 1.4 16v polo with 43,000 on it. and the story goes like this, i got a new sterio and was trying to fit it tuesday night ready for wednesday. there were to wires cut that looked like they'd been crimped*. so i got out my kit a connected them back up. Now it got to wednesday morning and it wouldn't start, so got toad* to a vw dealer.

Got a call today saying, the throttle body had gone and the temp gauge. also the instrument was not working including the speedo, rev, petrol, temp gauge aswell as the digi display for the mileage.

can any body help with advice, as they want to charge me nearly £1000 to fix.

I think i may of touched these cables (wires), cos the stereo didn't work when i plugged it in.

but all the signal lights work on the dash, but the handbrake light is all was on.

i does drive cos i drove it home.

I don't now if i've explained it probably but any advie would be grateful.

sorry mate but that all sonds a bit bewildering....maybe some incorrect head unit wiring has drained your battery and done something with the settings of your throttle body,,,,when my battery runs dead and i manage to get the car going the revs are all over but after a good drive it seems to sort itself out,,,as for the dash problems it sounds like possibly a fuse are incorrectly cut wire,,,,good luck anyway mate,,,

I can't imagine what you did had any of the effects you describe - just a lot of bad luck

where did you get it from and when? get on the phone and start shouting at some people!

Because dealers are one of the few people who can correctly diagnose the ECU to solve a possibly ECU related problem. Additionally the dealer may have been nearer; saving on towing costs. Furthermore, he may not trust some oily, fat bearded man and probably wants an opinion from the proffesionals who helped make his car in the first place. Aren't you the person who hasnt actually got a Polo and frequently decides that if you had a Polo, it would probably look like one of the other members' cars?

And since I work in a mechanics I can say that once you plug it into the computer it will tell you everything, just like VW.

This is I. The reason I change my mind so often is because you people produce pretty nice cars. Plus there is no 'if'. I am buying a Polo
