Got halfway home and had to take it back to the dealers. CD changer was broke, wouldn't accept any cd's


The guy we bought the car off was busy so we had a different one.
Twenty mins of fiddling later and he said they would have to fit a new one, they had it in stock, and would take it in to fit it now.

And we won't charge you for the new unit sir

I fixed him with a very hard look and patiently informed him that as we had only owned the car for 20 Mins, if he did try to charge me for a new unit i would take the old one and put it where the sun don't shine.
His face was an absolute picture.

5 Mins later, we had a new working cd changer.

Problem is i noticed when driving home this afternoon that the unit has popped out on one side. So back to the dealers we go tommorow to get them to fit it properly.

Oh, and we have a rattle too.

blackpologti, perhaps I'm lucky but I've only had two problems with my car, the seat base and washer pipe split. Still get a buzz from that Indigo blue in the morning (when its clean!!)

Tis a bit offtopic this, but to me it seems that most problems are non-reliability issues. I haven't heard of leaky engines, broken suspension parts or failing electronics.

But then I haven't exactly been looking for it either. No new Polo is in store for me for a long time to come

But back on topic; I wonder how that diesel works with a relatively small car as the Polo...

i think the whole vw range to be honest has suffered recently with build quality issues (never gonna be as good as others but just not vw standards) and electrical problemS!

what about my replaced ECU?

and my dealers current obsession with replacing every electrical module inside the cabin to track down the route of seemingly random ECU and service indicators. Currently, the car has new rattle in the instrument cluster (the whole thing's been replaced) and one key that works, one that doesn't (out of sync, I guess).

in fact, i'd say that - on my car at least - the only electrical thing that works right is the stereo (ignoring the TP feature).

(let's not even talk about the head/reversing lights that dip when the revs drop on low speed maneuvors )

My dealership told me it had to replace three 1.2 engines and a few have come in with Oil leaks I'm hoping mine will be OK though, I'd hate to go through all that time of loosening the engine up again

Also, I have heard of a few Polos with ignition coil problems. We currently have 25 Audi's sitting idle because the coils are on Back Order, so they'll probably be sitting there for another 2 months

Dammit. Didn't know that. Well strike that bit about electrical problems then, and the leaky engines bit too. But as I said, I haven't been paying much attention to the Mk6 for obvious reasons. That's why I was under the wrong impression...

Mod's, Not many i think, but after looking at the car properly i have made a little list :

1: Cruise Control. (if i can find the Vag Com socket)
2: Silver Fusion indicator bulbs (all round, inc side repeaters)
3: Change front side lights to Ultra bright LED's ( i just don't like the way the standard ones look. They are so dim)
4: Fit the W8 interior light.
5: Wire up the left hand rear fog light.
6: Possibly fit LED stop lights.
7 : The obligitory stubby aerial.
8 : Sunglasses holder. I miss the Beetle one.

At some point i want to fit the dimming mirror, idealy with the rain sensor but the mirror is more important as i had one in the Beetle. Still got it infact, but it won't fit in the Polo. Also i wouldn't mind a small Sub unit, to enhance the bass a little. It seems all mid-range at the moment.

So far the TDI engine is amazing. I whole hartedly recommend it. It just pulls like an express train, i can't belive the difference between the car we have and the car we test drove. They seem totally different. Now i know why i was being advised to get the traction control. Oh, and the car is a LOT quieter than i thought it would be. It's half as noisy as the Beetle was cruising at 70. We can now have a normal conversation without having to shout above the wind / road noise.

I agree. I was brought up with the idea that if there was a squeak in a VW, check your wife's earrings! But the Beetle suffered from terrible rattles and squeaks, with the seats being the worst culprit.

So far, i have found a squeak in the dashboard on the passenger side somewhere, a rattle on the trim panel that holds the rear speakers on the left hand side, and there was a rattle coming from the seat area at the back. Lifting the seat i found a screw. Not loose or fell out, but a screw that someone had dropped during manufacture rattling around under the seat base. Oh, and the passenger seat squeaks. Nothing new there then.

Cleaned the car today, lifted the bonnet and the plastic cover on the engine is coming apart due to heat. The insert with the badge on it is warping upwards from the rest of the plastic. The washer jet pipe, had come unclipped from it's mountings near the bonnet hinge. The little strip of plastic that seperates the front nearside headlight from the main beam had also come unclipped !

I just got back from a client visit and my Sport has just wheelspun all the way round a roundabout (damn that torque) did it for fun really or just to prove a point.

By the way I can't get hold of a traction control system my car.

Let the engine run in for a few thousand miles though, don't kill it.
