Got to say I’m not that impressed. The car seems to be full with minor problems. I’ve owned mine for about 8-months now and it’s only done 20,000 miles and so far I have/am experiencing several faults including:-

Anti-roll bar bushes failure after just 18,000 miles
Constant squeaky dashboard
Rattling glove box and cubby hole
Squeaking brakes which ‘thud’ when you stop (the car has genuine new disks & pads all round)
Climatronic system is near impossible to get to the right temperature; it just blows out hot air when on cold

I know these are minor niggles but I expected better from VW. I’ve always owned VW’s and I really like my Polo and wouldn’t swap it for any other car in its class but when you’ve paid the best part of £8,000 for a small car you expect it to be better than this, my old golf gti with 110,000 miles had less problems and was better screwed together I just hope the facelift model is better.

What are everyone else’s thoughts and opinions?

Sorry to hear your not quite satisfied with your car. I´ve driven about 27000km with my 2004 model Polo and no problems. Okey some squeeks from the dashboard in winter, but it´s freezing here so that´s understandable. Something wrong with the rear wiper but I don´t use it so who cares.

I paid more than 20000 euros for my car (cars aren´t cheap in Finland you know) so one should exept for it to work and so far it has, fortunately.

Forgot to mention I got the rear wiper problem as well.

I didn't mean to sound so negative about the car as it's a cracking little car and I still believe it's the best in it's class, but there has been a drop in the standard of build quality of the newer VW's which is a shame

The main one being the suspension creaking and whining when reversing. (They stopped it but now its come back.) VW say, now because of its age they will charge to deglase the rear brakes. (they did that last time and resolved it)

Would that notb be covered under my warranty?

The garage are crap- (wayside st albans). I will be changing my car in sept, VW arnt top of my list right now.

Go Audi, from what I've seen when I've gone in there with my Dad the service is great.

I`m happy with mine damci, only problem i`ve had with it is the rear wiper washer which vw sorted under warranty, it`s done 27000 miles now, i was thinking of selling for something bigger but i still have a few plans for it and still love the wee car

Yeah my suspension creaks and whines when I reverse too unfortunatly I have no warranty on mine and these things are expensive to repair for a small car.

For the first time in 6-years of VW ownership another VW aren't top of my list either for a newer car but I would certainly buy an older pre 97 car. For a 'new' car I may go jap and buy an older VW for the weekend I'm not saying my motor has been unreliable because it hasn't, it's never let me down it's just the little niggles that get on your nerves after a while

i aint had to many problems with mine but i have changed almost all the standard parts

the 9n is a easy car to modify thats one of the main reasons i got mine

one thing i have noticed is that its a nervous handling car ( compared to my mk1 golf gti ) at high speed but once you have got used to it all is fine

I purchased my Polo 9N second hand from a dealership last summer, and so far it has had two problems. I found that the the a chip controlling the rev counter broke stopping me from going above 1,000 rpm this was replaced under warranty. I also have currently at the moment a clutch problem where if the clutch pedal isnt pulled up enough it wont engage into gear!

Apart from these to problems, I am thrilled with my Polo 9N espicailly as my first car, even though it is 1.2S 65hp it is still great fun!

Anyone else had simmilar problems????

mines way too slow. thinking of selling it this summer and buying a mk2 golf gti.
i love it to bits and i think it look the b****x but i need summin quicker. gonna be sad to see it go

It went in on friday...
They said my rear calipers were faulty so they replaced the holders and also deglased my front brakes. All under warranty- so im pretty chuffed. .

I had a problem with my lights dipping considerably too. They are now saying my battery needs a full 24hr recharge at the dealer. They said my heasdunit and built-in sub may be to blame...

So all fine!

But then when I left my service warning icon came on my dashboard (they said it wont need one until after end of august)

I bought mine brand new a year and a half ago, going in for second service next week. I'm really happy with it so far, the only real problem was something to do with the ABS playing up, but that was sorted under warranty (phew) apart from that it's been ok, and for a 1.2 it is quite nippy

i bought a golf tdi new in 2001 ,got it to 38000 miles . the water leaks were a night mare . the design faults , the electric box is in the plenuhm chamber poor seals,water leaking tail light seals,rear brake calipers ,etc etc. i have had vw for the last 40 years , i hate to say it but if you can go jap do it . paul. blackpool.

Yeah, i also get squeaky suspension at low speeds on any change of gradient. also after heavy breaking. classic dash board rattles, you'll get over it. just persevere!!!
