OK peeps, what would you do in this situation?

Let's just say a friend had a job interview this afternoon and got offered:
a) a pay rise and
b) a promotion

but to get these, this friend would have to:
c) move to glasgow
d) sell the Polo because:

e) this friend would have to raise a deposit on the sky-high property prices up there
f) would want to live in the city centre, which is pretty much a no-go area for car ownership.

I'd tell the friend to have his cake and eat it too.


Here's why:

I'd tell the friend to take the job & pay rise, forget about living in the city centre and instead, move to a cheaper and more car-friendly suburb.

Sell the car to a mate who wouldn't mind having such a fine machine 'on hire' for a while, then buy it back later when the money and a suitable garage can be found..

Living in the suburbs isn't an option as that's what I've (er, this friend's) been doing for the last five years and I/he's had enough of the boredom - hence seeking work in a big city.

But digging into it more means that a city centre place *will* require a huge cash injection into any deal - so selling the Polo looks like a must.

Of course, the best flat I've seen came with private parking, but to scrape the coins together to buy it, would mean that I'd (er, this friend) would have nothing to park in the space!!

*pants* have to make a decision by tomorrow.

Damn. Well if living in the city is that important... May as well act on it. I've lived in the city for years now, can't wait to get my ass out. Finally, no more parking dings and vandalism fears. I guess selling the car altogether amounts to the same thing.
