Huy folks,

The last couple of times i've turned my ignition on, the engine has made a kind of coughing/sneezing noise! i know it sounds a little wierd but it's the only way i can describe it!

It's as if my ignition has a sore throat!

Any help?

does it sound like the starter motor is still sort of turning. kinda of whizzing noise? mine does it too - going to ask at the local dealer about it.... if you turn the key just about enough to fire it up it doesnt do it....

Yes it does sound like a whizzing noise!! Sounds like we have the same problem! I will investigate it and see what the outcome is!! If i find out what it is i will post it!!

Hope it's not a big problem!!

My Lupo does it aswell

I dont think its a major issue tho, just doesnt sound great and I think the only way of sorting it is with a new starter motor

to me it just sounds like the fuel system priming itself when the ignition is switched on before crankin the engine...?

if u hadnt noticed, the fuel system also primes its self as u open the drivers door!

If that's the case, is it when you turn the ignition on Clees, or when you turn the engine on?

I had this problem once too.... now perfect once again

Its linked to the starter motor, the problem is the little bush on the end of it - it gets worn away / cracked etc... and spins freely causing the wheezing noise

What you need to do, is remove the starter motor and replace this small and cheap bush and you will find the sound gone... can be bought from vw dealer parts ("bearing bush")

Personally I changed my starter motor for a new one at the same time, in case the slipping caused any internal damage to the starter motor etc...

Hope this helps!

The sound it makes can be very embarrasing !!

p.s search for posts about me on the subject for more info

yeah i have the same problem, its as if when the car starts i'm still turn the ignition and u get that noise

my uncle owns a garage and he says it can be dust and dirt in the starter motor

mine only seems to do it in the morning, then it will start to get less and less as the day goes on.

if it keeps doin it after a few weeks, clean ur starter motor
