I can not believe the varying prices that i got quoted today for an annual service!

Was on my dinner at work and thought, my service and MOT is due in 2 week, lets get some idea of price for it!

I called 5 different places and here's what answers i got:

1st Vag specialist = £135 service only
Garage with VW badge on advert = £110+vat service only
2nd Vag specialist = £185 + £40 MOT
pretty large local garage = £60 + £35 MOT
VW dealer = £95 service only

Now the second VAG specialist reeled off this sentence saying; "your saving £50 off your service because of a deal we've got on, all fluids will be checked and topped up if needed free and we'll skim your brake discs and check your break and suspension to make sure there's no problems there"

I was well shocked......£185 for an annual service! And VW only quoted £95 and said they'd check condition of cam belt too.

The large local garage guy i spoke to though had previously worked for my local VW dealer and said he's quite familier with Polo's, and £60 its the cheapest by far! I might pop down and have a look around to make sure they do a good job!!!!

What do you guys think?

VW dealer = £95 service only

how many miles service is this for? seems dirt cheap for a dealership - go with them for the stamp in your book and the good price. sure this is fully inclusive of all bits?

Yep VW = £95

Might be plus VAT, but still cheaper than the specialists!

The car has only done 48,000 miles so really all i need is oil change, filter change and then the general checks. I just thought if the cheapest place looks alright, then i'll get it done there! Would save myself a bit of cash which would help towards my holiday!

Everything on the car seems alright apart from a knocking noise, but i think that is a suspension bush which needs replacing. Will ask when i take it for service!

I think I paid £120 for a 10k service at VW, its a rip off but I like the stamp and the courtosy car.

Mat,

Which local garage did you go to????? I'm getting rid of the Polo and want to get the cam belt etc.... done before i sell.... Just didn't want to pay the £300ish kinda price VW had quoted.
