Hi all,

I am about to add a cone K&N Filter to my polo (1999) 1.9D CL 6n2, so it could get a but more of a beefier sound, by way is the air filter?

above the engine there is a bay, which the pipe seems to flow to it, i opened it up by there isn't a air filter in there!

I am hoping the service dude actually put it in!!!

Any help?

If its the same as my 1.9d mate it is on the drivers side in front of the front wheel. Access to it is actually from under the car. Jack it up you'll see like three clips. Undo these and cover will come off and the tubular airfilter will come with it. Not sure if you have to take the belly guard out to get to it first. Hope this helps. Its in the haynes manual. Pop out to halfords for a read then put it back ;-)

As for the noise. Don't know if an induction kit will work on a diesel as they are already noisy. Know on turbo diesels its worth it but not sure on naturally aspirated ones. Let me know what it sounds like if you do go ahead as I'm intrigued now. :D

I put the kn filter on where i thought it should be, just incase, and i does sound beefer, and has increased the rpm range, before it was between 3 - 4000 and now its is 3 all the way to redline....

i will jack it up on the weekend, and with regards to the haynes manual, there are all closed up, non open for me to look at - i been to 3 seprate halford shops

Yep, always closed up...

For some strange but good reason, my diesel doesnt sound like a diesel, with the exception of morning start ups, when is idling over 11krpms, but onces that initial dropped, then it goes quiet, now with the knn in, it just sounds like BBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, just like if you woke the bulldog 1st thing and is proper pissed off! that may be loud, but damn it sounds good...

Did you say yours is just a 1.9 with no turbo. I'm intrigued. Might get a filter if it makes that much difference because mine is dead up till 3000rpm as you say and then it pulls really hard till 4000rpm and then stops! If the filter gives it power above 4000rpm I might give it a go. I was talking to my brother about it last night and he though the only side affect may be quite smoky emmissions. How are yours??

mine is non turbo - good torque, but now its even better, HAD the same as the pull you described.

Definately get the filter, the only reason i bought it cuz i saw it for £5, wish i bought 2 now! no smoke comes out.

I am getting a clutch this weekend, so i will tell the mechanic to take the other filter out, i found since i put this filter on, i am getting some lags, probably the cause of 2 filters?

if you can get a proper induction, that will definately help, or you can do what i will be doing soon, get some proper, not a cheap ass ducting pipe and funnel it from your grill at the lower section of the front of your car to your knn, and somehow stablise on to your knn. that will increase your airflow dramatically, but not sure how it will affect the grunt sound... in my car, there is plenty of air within the bonnet for some reason anyway....
