Central Locking "HELP"

I have a Mk5 (6N2) Polo 1.4 TDi and for some reason i got to work this morning and came to lock the doors and the pump has stopped working and i had to lock each door seperately including the boot, has anyone come across this problem before and how did you solve it ? is it something and nothing or do i need a new central locking pump ??

PS : I think the pump on the Mk5 is in the rear drivers Qtr ???? can anyone confirm this for me ???

has the pump got water around it?
also, the pump is located in the boot on the right hand side, behind where the first aid kit is meant to go.

Yup, took the pump out and it had quite abit of water around it
I went to VW at lunch time and a guy from the service department came out and had a look for me and said the motor will have got wet and burnt out, basically its knackered and i need a new one
£185 plus VAT from VW (BIG OUCH)
Anyone got a spare one ???

WTF, £185!! i think other companies may do it cheaper!

the motor is in the boot right? on the right hand side?? can someone confirm this please?

Yeah it is - and it had a blue wire (quite thick) coming out of it (normally blue)

Correct, its in the boot behind the First Aid Kit on the drivers side, usually one wiring plug and one blue pipe coming out of it.
When i went to VW, The VW service guy said best thing to do is smell the pump (no silly comments please about smelling your pumps)
if it smells burnt then its fooked, he said that it would probably smell abit like the hand controller from a Scalextric (sp?) this means the motor inside the pump has burnt out and the whole unit needs replacing (usually caused by getting wet at some point)
Part number (just incase anyone needs it) is 6N0 962 257 now depending on the age of the vehicle (this part number is for a Mk5 Polo 6N2 2000 - 2002) then the there may or may not be a letter at the end of the part number aswell, mine hasnt but apparently some have "A" at the end and possibly other letters !
I have managed to source one for £47 including VAT and delivery from a VW Breakers which isnt too bad (beats VW's price anyway)

yep same part number as i noted down.
mine started working today, think it's dried up totally! i've also moved it from where the water was coming in!
are you sure yours is busted? after the water dries up then it will be fine!

don't buy a new one from vw at that price!

ebay has them for sell often and you will get it cheaper
try dry your pump out, might work again

Bloody typical, after buying one yesterday from a VW Breakers (waiting for it to be delivered today) come to open the car this morning and the whole central locking system is up and running again !!!!
Might just keep hold of the new one tho when it arrives instead of sending it back, just incase !
Im putting mine in a clear strong plastic bag and putting a tie wrap (sp?) round it so NO water is getting in it again !!!!

Glad its working again.
Bag idea sounds good, but leave some air holes at top maybe? so unit does not overheat.
Also, i'd be investigating the water leak into the car too... most likely the area around the light cluster. Otherwise more water damage could occur to car electrics.

It was the service guy at VW who suggested the bag, he said it doesnt need any air so just pop it in a plastic bag and tie wrap it round the wires !
I have custom made L.E.D rear lights, they are origionaly for a Mk4 (but are a straight fit on the Mk5) but peraps that has got something to do with a little water getting in ?!?! looks like i will be taking the light out at the weekend and making sure the foam (or whatever its made from) seal round the light is ok

Defo something to do with it, must be a bad seal or a small area that is not sealed tight to car body and is were the leak came in. Seal it up with silicone or something

exactly the same with me mate, i have the LED rear lights and they have a gap around them and thats where the water is getting in.
guna have to use some kind of selant to sort it out!
