I've always wanted to upgrade my headlights to them ones with the blue tint as I think they look cool - I did buy some off eBay a while back but upon trying to fit I discovered that my polo had the round ones installed with the different fitting - the circular base ones (not the H4 type fitting ones with the three tabs) and the new ones wouldn't fit (boo hoo!!)

I did find set of halogen upgrades in Halfords a while back which i bought and installed which was a significant improvement on the candle bulbs but was wandering if anyone had come across anyone selling the blue tint type bulbs with this non H4 fitting? Sorry that the description is a bit vague - I used to know the name of the fitting but seem to have forgotten. I have a code from my upgrade bulbs Halfords - HBU12 60/55w.

I know people have changed the light fittings for the H4 type ones - do you have to remove the complete headlamp? If so, this sounds a bit drastic (& costly) to me and I wouldn't feel comfortable re-aligning the beams afterwards. Are there no 'blue tint' upgrades to my current bulbs without a headlamp conversion?

I know what you mean, at the moment im having to put up with the candles (410 fitment) as my local halfrauds dont (and probably wont) suuply the conversion bulbs. So i doubt there's a blue tint version available.

As you say the other option is to upgarde the headlights, you are righ tin saying that you have to replace the whole unit but its not as expensive as you might think. Eurocarparts do upgrade/replacement headlights (part no. & description - 471440691 HEADLAMP - H4 POLO '82 - '90) at £14.91+VAT each, there's also a Bosch version (part no. 471440690) that retails for £24.68+VAT each and as the headlights arent handed (i.e. LH & RH versions) simply buyting 2 of the same headlight, installing them and re-aligning the beams should sort your problem

or you can do like moi and do it pikey style lol... i ripped the old bulb apart and then used the metal frame around the bulb to go over the normal H4 bulbs....ahhh problem solved

i'll try and take a pic so you know what i'm talking about...

this is what i did but is by no means probably what you SHOULD do...i find the "fabricated" bulb holder holds it nicely and then the rubber black bit holds it all solid enough for me

Oooooo that looks like a much better alternative, ive got some H4's in the garage. I think i'll have a go at that, now, where's my dremel multi..............

i smashed the bulb, and then used a soldering iron to melt the solder connecting the base of the bulb to the metal part....then just (rather messily) ripped the hole bigger in it using some wire cutters

i've only done 1 side so far as that bulb had blown so i thought why not but i'm gonna murder my working bulb for the cause too

oh and i got all my parts needed to uprate my headlight loom too....so i'll have uprated loom, phillips vision side lights, and H4 powerbulbs better get my sun glasses
