Just had a thought, do any of you know if the gearbox from a 1.4 16v will fit onto the GTI?? i am presuming that the cylinder block is common to both engines, therefore the mounting should be similar.

was discussing it with phil gti at the meet last sunday, just wonderin if anyone has any thoughts on the matter, better still, if you know anyone that has done it??

My gti came with a 6n2 1.4 16v gearbox fitted. It was badly fitted and one of the seals had gone. Due to this all the oil was lost and the box was knackered. I replaced it with a gti box and the performance differance was unbelievable. The 1.4 had really bad acceleration. You would assume it to be the other way round really.

oh well, thanks mate, you're right, i thought that it would give better acceleration, but i was wrong, i'm just glad that someone has done it and i don't have to experience it first hand.
