My 1.9 tdi 02 plate is coming up 4 years old and 33,000 miles so I wasn't expecting to replace the cambelt yet. A letter from the VW dealer has arrived telling me this is due now. I know the 4 year service is a fairly big job but I am not convinced. Any advice from experience or greater knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks. Darkman.

it would probbaly be ok untill about 50k but with a cam belt you are better safe than sorry so i would say get it changed somtime in the near future, or when it gets its next service

I'd have it changed, the belt on the PD diesels is under more stress as it has to work the valves and the Fuel injectors, which have to generate about 2000bar. I think VWs guidelines are 40000miles or 4years.

Thanks for the response guys. Yeah I guess as 4 years is the agreed time to get it changed I will get it done. As they say, better safe than sorry. I know someone who delayed getting the job done on a Clio and the engine suffered severe damage. Cheers. Darkman.
