Climate Control Display

A couple of years ago the middle bar in the fan speed stopped working on mine. It annoyed me at the time but it just out of warranty so I just lived with it, I have now picked up a 2nd hand one to replace it and noticed that its the same part number as the Passat /Golf ones just with a different clip on surround to fit the Polo dash shape.
My friend had a passat and on his climatronic display it displayed the outside temp to the front of the car diagram on the display however my Polo has never shown this, it only gives the temp on the dash under the rev counter. The other thing that annoyed me compared to the Passat was I can only change the temp up in 1c steps however on the Passat you could go up in 0.5 steps.
Now I know the parts numbers are same do other people with climatronic in there Polo get the outside temp on the climate display or not and able to change the temp in 1 or 0.5 steps ? I always thought the Polo had the lesser version of clmatronic and it surprised me when I checked the part number on the 2nd hand one that it matches the passats one.
Just curious before I attempt to get my old one out as I'm starting to think its too much hassle just to get the middle fan bar working again but if it gets the outside temp working and adds half steps it might be worth it.

Don't know if this is helful or not but until recently I had a passat and the polo.
There was absolutely no difference between the two units either physically or in terms of their operation. They both did the same things, reacted to the tasks in the same way (i.e how they dispersed air at different settings) and they both moved up or down the temp scale in 1c increments - maybe your friend's passat has a new feature - mine was on a T plate. The only difference between the two units was - as you say - the outside temp was on the passat climatronic but has never been on the polo.
It may be a case of playing around with all the settings tho' - something I have never dared to try

That's an interesting observation - hadn't realised they were *exactly* the same! I'd be interested to find out if it was possible too....

Ta for the info, after a bit of digging I found out there is different versions of the panel denoted by the last letter of the part number the Polos is C, this seems to have been used in Passats/Golfs in the States as far as I can see. The later Passats/Golf were a J which included the outside temp being displayed and 0.5c increments. There must have been another one where it went up in 1c increments but showed the outside temp aswell in cars where there was no permanent display of the outside temp on the clocks I know in the ealry Golf/Passats you could get this up by flicking through the MFA but it didn't stay it all the time. The thing that is weird the Polos manual shows the display showing the outside temp.
Going to fit it anyway as I was checking my current one and all the bars above the middle one also don't work now.

Right, so if you picked up a display from an earlier Passatt and fitted it, it might be able to display the outside temp on the Climatronic?

You can get all sorts of info out of the climate control

I made a post about this some time ago. I believe its a fault in the manual. I think they decided it wouldnt be worth printing an extra page omitting the outside temp display for the polo (or they messed up). I tried to get it to show on mine a while back with no success.
Thing is, the system knows your inside temperature because thats how it controls the airflow/air temp.
Here is a pic for those who don't know what we are talking about:

I'm thinking it should work, the pin inputs are identical on all versions so they are probaly backward compatable as andyg said when the units in diagnostic mode you can get it to display the outside temp so its not as if its not getting fed the required feed.
If i'd known the front surround just clipped on/off to match the curve in the Polos dash (straight sides in the Passat/Golf) I would have went for recent Passat one but as the one I have is out another Polo I suspect it will just be the same as mine and not show the outside temp.

Is there a way of converting the speed sensor to MPH?

Yeup press the econ button and auto at the same time, it will also change the temperature to fahrenheit instead of celsius aswell just do the same to change it back.

There's no real need for it on the Climatronic as we have the outside temp displayed at the bottom of the rev counter.

Would be nice for our passengers though

F**k the passengers
I'll just drop their window and let them guess by it either freezing them, or just nicely cooling them
