Well, I've had my new front discs and new brake pads (all round) fitted for a couple of weeks and driven near 400 miles on them, so they're nicely bedded in

I have to say that I'm really really chuffed with these new Black Diamond pads! As a lot of you will know, the OE Volkswagen brake pads tend to give off a lot of nasty black brake dust through normal usage, and after a week's driving, or about 100 miles (or less!) the alloys tend to be covered in a coating of dirty black brake dust deposits

However, since washing the Polo last weekend, and having covered 140 miles this week, here's how my front alloys look this afternoon (forgive the phone-camera pic quality!):



In the past, the same mileage would have resulted in a very dirty alloy which looks crap, but as you can see the deposits from the Black Diamond pads are hardly noticeable! Even on the rear wheels, which are still the original brake discs, there is hardly any dust. Well happy, this will make my cleaning regime a bit easier

I can't really directly compare the performance of the new pads against the old OE ones, as I've changed my front discs too resulting in greater braking performance anyway. But if you're considering a change of brake pads, the Black Diamond Predators are well worth it IMO. I got mine from John at 2modified, he did me a great deal on the front and rear pads and I'm glad I bought them

Get yourself some Meguiars Hot Rims Si, that is great stuff.

Only takes about 2 mins to do all 4 wheels, and I've never seen them look as good as they do now except when I bought the car.

Great post. I'll be looking for pads soon so now I know what to go for. Any links to a site or idea of price?

I got the pads from www.2modified.com - you can drop them an e-mail via the website, or if you have MSN Messenger you can add "[email protected]" as a new contact and chat to John direct if you have any questions. He's a fellow Polo GTi owner and is a member of UK-Polos and Club Polo (has his own section on Club Polo), he had these same pads on his GTi and had no hesitation in recommending them, and I'm glad to say I would also recommend them

I can't find my receipt right at this minute (been decorating the house this last week so stuff is all over the place!) but I paid about £100 inc delivery for front and rear pads.

ModifiedMadness, at the mo I use just a bucket full of Autoglym bodywork shampoo conditioner (er, diluted of course), Autoglym wheelbrush (good to get in around those bolts) and a large sponge to clean the alloys. Got some AG Clean Wheels but as its acidic I rarely use it (only when the wheels are filthy) and rinse almost immediately. Got some of AG's new non-acidic wheel cleaner to try out at some point

once i put the 280mm G60 discs on i got new black diamond pads to go with them and must say my brakes feel really good!!

just standard G60 discs too, nothin fancy! and i can outbrake alot of other cars!
