I posted about this in the MK5 section earlier, but no response:

Had a look at removing it tonight, as I need somewhere to place my carkit control box. Removed the Torx screws inside the glovebox and along the bottom edge, but it doesn't want to move

Is there a 'How To' anywhere? Oh, and do they do a Haynes manual that includes the 6N2 GTi?

I did remove the glovebox on my mkv and i wouldnt do it again, it was a nightmere. almost couldnt get it back in properly.

I secured my carkit control box under the passenger side of the center console, just pulled the plastic back and slide up from underneath , securing it with double sided foam tape. it's held secure and u'd never know it's there.

I never did manage to get the glovebox out, it looked like you had to remove half the dashboard, so i sacked it.

yep you have to take of all the trim underneath which leads upto the steering wheel

Why is it so difficult I wonder? I just went straight into it, as the Fabia removal was 5/6 Torx screws, a cover by the door jamb and out it came

Del_GTi - thanks for the carkit fitting advice. Where did you route the cabling for the phone cradle?

What type of carkit did you get mate?

Mine is a Nokia CK-1W so doesn't have a cradle,however the little control dial for it is secured under the heater controls, with the wiring fed from the box in the location i advised earlier to the controller.

The mic is ran up the A-pillar and along and comes out at the interior light so is really neat and no wires can be seen at all.

I've got the Nokia CK-7W, again it has the control dial but I have a cradle because I like to have the phone charging, and I also use mine for SatNav, so need to see it

I've had it for about a year now, used in the Fabia previously. Like the flexibility of it as you don't always have to put the phone in the cradle and it'll connect via Bluetooth - short journies etc

Will have another look once my radio keys arrive and I can sort everything in one go. Again, thought I might be able to use the Fabia removal keys - again, no luck

Cool. Yeah i just use the cigarette lighter for charging my fone. I have a little holder which sits in the air vents so i can see my sat nav on it. Works really well.

I bought the Dashmount for the Polo, which clips in behind the cubby hole. I've used them before and they're 1st class - very secure and you can remove them quite easily with no holes to the dash

Once I've got the radio removal keys and I can crack on and get that fitted.

where did you guys get these holders from?

www.dashmount.co.uk for the DashMount ones, or www.handnav.co.uk for the Brodit mounts. DashMount allows a cradle at cubby hole/radio level, the Brodit is mounted down by the heater controls and bank of switches.

Just another quick question - with positioning the control box there, did you have much trouble running the cabling to the back of the headunit, for power, radio mute etc? With the radio out of the dash, can you easily coax the carkit wiring up to the back of the radio?

Radio removal keys now on their way - game on!

Yeah easy mate. No probs. You can take the tray or single slot cd player (whichever you have) out and that will make it even easier.

I'm just wondering how easy it will be to feed the cable up from underneath the glovebox to the back of the radio, with the glovebox still attached, that's all.
