Door grab handles

Hi all. Great forum.

I'm trying to buy some replacement interior grab handles for a Polo GTi however the dealer asks me if the interior colour is "off black" or "flannel grey" - to me it's neither and something inbetween.

Was kinda assuming a dealer would know, but it seems not. Any ideas please guys?

Also, I assume the coating peeling off these things and looking a bit tatty is the normal?

Thanks in advance,

I've recently fitted a new grab handle in mine as the coating was peeling and it did look rather tatty.

Just ordered through VAGparts on this forum. The whole handle is made up of 2 bits:

Main handle 6N0 867 180E 48Z £8.44 +vat
trim 6N0 867 198B 48Z £2.24+vat

UK postage will be £3.00

Comes to around £15.50 incl delivery for the whole handle. Oh and i didn't get asked for a colour, just got sent the correct one (didn't think there was more than one colour anyway!)

Excellent. Thanks very much for the information. I shall take a look at VAGparts now. I assume there'll be different part numbers for each side.

How easy are they to replace? I tried pulling at them a bit and prising the two bits apart, but just ended up breaking all my fingernails.

Thanks again for the reply.

I guess they may have different part numbers, just say which side you want.

Fairly easy to replace. You need to prise off the outer trim (i actually ended up breaking mine in the process, but i think the best way may be to use a small flat head screw driver and a rag and be careful!). Once this is off you need to remove the 2 screws behind.

Then you'll need to remove the whole door card and remove a couple of screws from behind the handle. Then just a simple case of putting new one on!

Blimey. Wasn't expecting to have to remove the door card completely. Was kinda hoping all was done from the "inside the car" side. :?

I assume removing the door card isn't much more than undoing a fair few screws, unscrewing the door pin and then pulling? (whilst being careful of the window switch cables etc)

thanks alot

Afraid so. You'll need to take out 1 screw on the inside edge of the door card (near the mirror controls), unscrew the door pin and pop out the window controls (this can be done by carefully sliding a flat head screwdriver under the controls and pushing the release clip in).

Then just prise the door card out from the bottom up, making sure you open the door handle and lift the card over the door pin.

The colour you need is "off black" :)

I was petrified of breaking something when I first took one of my doors apart  but its a piece of cake as long as you are careful. Good luck, the new handles will look smart :)
