Clutch Query

Hi all

Got a new clutch cable put on my car, my clutch was really heavy, so much so that I have to take it in and out of gear in traffic.....too much of a workout if you ask me

After changing the cable the clutch dosnt seem any better. Does anyone know if this fault (needing a new clutch at 56k and being bloody hard work) is the norm.

Also, the killer question; how much am I looking at? And is there anything else I could do or does it definatly sound like the clutch?

There does appear to have been repared at some point but it does have problems engaging which makes me believe it would be the clutch itself...what do you think :?

Can you repare the pedal box, does this cost a lot and can it solve it being so tough?

My pedal box went and i couldnt engage gears!? My clutch pedal was nearly on the floor when it went so if all your pedals are level its probably not that!?

Just an idea?!

Good luck

The clutch went today....sh*t!

The clutch pedal now is loose, in all directions in movement and not held in place at all. It feels free from the brake pedal and gas...is this the box thats brrken as well? You say you had the box go on you, did it cost a bit to repare? and do you think that this may be the problem...not the clutch.....help

The garage think its the clutch although I now think it may be the pedal box thats at fault. I just dont want to fix the clutch and it be the same

Box went on mine m8, Replacement pedal box i think was about £55 but labours a sod because its a pig of a job!!

Mine was done a few days ago by independant garage and took them total of 5-6 hours to do, so if thats what needs doing get someone who's done it before to tackle it!

Best bet is to take off the panel over the pedals under the dash (just three screws) wingle into the footwell and take a look fella!

Good Luck!

if your pedal box isnt broken and you have changed the cable, and its still stiff like mine was, its most prob your release bearing not sliding well on the shaft in the gearbox which is prob lacking grease, i replaced mine alone with a new clutch and its been fine ever since.

My clutch is heavy and creaks, I was thinking about replacing the cable, but it sounds like a common problem.

I have took off the kick panel and can see the whole pedal assembly, it looks fine to me, what am I looking for? Everyone seems to say ah yeah, the pedal box...... but does anyone actually know what the problem is, and what to look for? I see the cable coming in, and the cable attaching to the pedal. What can go wrong? From what people say it sounds like a weld fails and the pedal collapses, but you don't need a knew one, sort out a bearing for it.

I'm pretty certain that the heavy creakyness is down to the clutch release lever on the transmission. Anyone else had that?

It would immensely, we always have this issue, people band it about, but no one actually explaining the issue. Surely I can tig weld it, or completely machine a new bearing assembly?
