steering wheel removal

how does the airbag come off the wheel and how long does the battery need to be disconnected for before trying?
any help would be appreciated.

as long as the battery is disconnected that will do.
dependant upon the car it may have 2 cap screws on the back of the wheel/airbag or there may be 2 holes which have quite a sunken in clip arrangement. A special tool or a correctly adjusted (bent) screwdriver will release these hidden clips.
If you are not sure then I would leave well alone and let a professional do the job as airbags hurt.
btw...just why do you want to remove the airbag and wheel?
