Hey hey, coilovers at last

Hello everybody,

I've finally got my coilovers fitted on the polo, roughly 50-60mm down, and i think it looks so much better than standard, meaner, wider, and longer looking. (Also handles better!)

Here is a pic of it when i first got it home (the long way home) after fitting:

I think it has settled down a bit and dropped slightly lower now.

The guy who fitted it said the geometry on the car was very strange once fitted and it took them all day to get it right apparently, (only paid for the quoted amount tho), anybody know what would cause the geometry to be so bad?

From standard, it's a lot firmer, and there's hardly any body roll round corners, but it does seem a bit too "bouncy" at the moment, mainly on bumpy roads, so i think a bit of adjusting is needed. It's a bit scary sometimes when i go over a bump, or dip, as i'm pulling away, as it moves my accelerator foot, and i end up jerking away a bit out of control!

Does anyone who's had coilovers fitted know how i can reduce the bounceyness? (These are FK Konigsports). The only thing i can adjust is the damping or rebound i think, so i assume it must be that!

Sorry for the essay above,

More pics soon,

Ant

That picture you've posted above is exactly the kind of ride height I want my Polo to be at, looks good 8)

There is one particular entry onto a roundabout here in town that unsettles the car and jolts my foot whilst I'm accelerating onto the island, its a 'mare when the car tries to start bunny hopping isn't it! I've had to change my approach to an off-line angle to avoid the bump

Personally I can't help out re setting up the coilies but I'm sure some one will advise!

thats looking good.
it will no doubt settle more yet, it looks about -50mm but leave it a few more miles and it will settle more.
As for the Geometry, it took my dad and I a whole day to fit mine!
Backs where easy....fronts were a joke!

Ill be getting my springs soon ( be sitting 50mm lower) thanks to JKM GTi. Get somes piccies on the site when its lowered. :D

Si, any chance of getting the spec. for the exhaust you got from Power Flow :?: as i will be purchasing one in the not so distance future.

Did they cut the flanges off your standard exhaust & weld them onto the stainless steel one :?: , as my brother got an exhaust for his Rover 620ti
& thats what they did.

It does look much better methinks! I knew as soon as i got the polo something was gonna have to be done about the ride height, especially going from my old mk2 golf which was down 40mm on spax springs.

I've had a little play with adjustments since my last post. I softened it up all round by giving the damper 1 turn towards soft. (It was on the firmest setting, which probably has something to do with the excessive bounceyness!) Anyway, it feels much smoother, and is more predictable over bumpy roads now.

DanDiesel, have you experienced any of the things i posted about before, or had a little play with the damping, because i see you have konigsports too?

yep i do have konigsports too!
the guys that fitted mine have both fitted coilovers to there cars so they knew exactly wot they were doing!!
apparently it took a little while longer for them to get the set up rite but they fitted them in around 3 and a half hours ish!!
its down around 60mm and the damping is set at normal/average so the ride is not really that different over the standard ibiza ride (which is set quite hard on the sport models anyway)
the only time i notice it being much harder is when i go over speed bumps. if i go over them too fast then i definately know about it, and if i change gear going on or coming off them, then the car does jolt a bit but i'm guessing it just my timing!!
over a very bad surface then it is bouncier but its as smooth as u like over good roads!!
but i try to avoid all potholes and drains etc!
now that the setup has settled, i think the fronts my need to go down a bit further but i shall see!!
as for the geometry thing, it may mean u need a 4 wheel alignment and ur tracking sorted!
