Irritating ticking noise!!!

Right, i noticed about a week ago that when i turn the ignition on in my car, there's a strange ticking noise coming from where the passenger airbag is located in the dashboard! When you turn the engine on though, the noise becomes intermittent and can only be heard every now and then. When i slow down to a stop it starts to tick again!!!

Have any of you guys had the same problem or offer any advice as to what may be causing this or what may cure it. (apart from turning the radio up  )

Cheers, Mat

I sometimes hear a ticking kind of noise in mine yeah, I'm not sure if it's the C/C that it comes from, when you start the car and turn it off.

i think i get that in mine aswell, and i'm pretty sure that its the Climate Control that makes the noise!
i don't think its anything to worry about tho mate!

Thing is, i'm quite used to hear odd noises and stuff, but this is a little more annoying. I'm pretty sure its nowt to do with the C/C as its coming from the position where the airbag is situated. Its really loud and when i come round to selling the car, if the noise is still happening, then no one will want to buy it!!!

I think its only a small problem but i'd much prefer my car not to make noises like it!!!

My dad had a listen and is concerned, so i said i'd take it to a garage next week to get an opinion from them. Might be worth me just plugging my car into Vag-com! Anyone got acces to it?

the noise i get is intermitent aswell, i can hear it most when i turn the ignition and don't start (just let all the lights and that come on and go off).
the noise i hear comes from the same area as yours, sort of between the centre of the dash and the passenger airbag!!
by all means get it checked and post up what the problem (if any).

The noise carries on until you actually turn on the engine. Even whilst i'm driving it makes the noise aswell! I've had the car 2 years now so definately is a new noise/problem!!!

Will get it checked as soon as i can, just for peace of mind!!! And will let you guys know if i find the solution! Fingers crossed its a cheap simple fix. Got my Holiday to Zante in less than 4 weeks which i need as much cash for as possible! 8)

i think i phrased mine wrongly
i hear it most as i turn the ignition half way coz thats when the car is quietest!! i can still hear it occasionally when i'm driving along, but usually only when my music is off!!

Alright! No worries bud. :)

Cheers for explaining your problem. Maybe, i'll sort it out soon.

If it is the C/C its quite a bizarre noise. i wonder what is causing it??? :?

pull the fuse/relay for the CC and see if the noise occurs?

Well, problem is now diagnosed. Am gonna wait for a month or so tho before i sort it out.

The mechanic told me that it was the air flow flap motor that was making the noise. There's a cog that turns to regulate the amount of air that is directed to certain areas. However the flap has seized and the cog is turning and catching on the flap. Only problem is actually getting to the part!
