Hi guys,

i'm coming to the end of my patience with my electric windows and central locking. A while ago i posted a few problems which i was having with them. To refresh here are the problems:

1. Can't operate drivers window up/down or internal locking/unlocking button from drivers side controls

2. The only button that works from drivers side is that i can open passengers window but once down i can't close it.

3. my key doesn't operate central locking if i use the key in the door.

4. i can't open/close windows if i use the key in the door.

Hope this sounds clear!!!

is there any chance that the central locking can F**k up the window system.

i have had several garages look at my door and have stripped it down and have found nothing wrong.

Any help would save me from self harming!!!! :? :)

After spilling coke over the window switches on the drivers door my central locking wouldn't work although the windows worked fine, changed the switch and all returned to normal you might just need the switch replaced. Theres also a switch on the end of the key barrel in the door lock (the famous one for getting in the car with a pen) if this was jammed in some way or broken that would prevent the windows from opening/closing with the key and the central locking.

Might be the central convenience module that controls the central locking, windows etc. You could try a solo scan on it with vag com to see if it responds OK and isn't showing any errors. Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting it this might reset all the modules in the car.

Yes tried that too. I might try it again though. How difficult is the central convenience module to repair or change? How much?

How do i do the solo scan with vag com. Nver heard of that before??

Instead of scaning the whole car which goes through all the modules and I think if it can't connect it just jumps on to the next one so it might not show up a fault, you can go in and select an indivdual module and connect to it. if vagcom cannot connect to it it will be knackered or possibly a dogey connection somehwere. I'm guessing but I suspect the modules are not cheap.

it is the wiring that lies in the black casing that you can see when the door is open. The wiring within this casing is notorious to break and come dettatched on vw cars, i would bet that is where the problem lies. Open the door, pull the black casing back and check if any wires are broken or have come out of the socket, it sounds like an earth fault to me

i've finally found the problem. A wire that runs from the door near the opening mechanism had frayed.

So now i can drive in the sun with all my windows down!! yipeeeee 8)
