Hi
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction!
For the last 3 months or so my misses has been complaining about a noise on our polo gti, to cut a long story short ive replaced the rear wheel bearings (not cheap!) which helped, also have cleaned up and lubed a sticky rear calliper which has cooled down the rear wheel!.
Drove it today and it still seems to be making a noise, -well two!
A faint whinning noise which becomes louder if you depress the clutch whilst in motion,
A droaning noise which is noticeable when cruising above 60mph.

Would adjusting the clutch cable (somehow?) help, as it does crunch into reverse sometimes and can feel a bit ‘notchy’.

Car has done 50k, had the pedal box done before we got it, had the clutch cable, cambelt & tensioner replaced about 10k ago and gearbox oil changed and was clean anyway.

Sorry for the vagueness but any help appreciated as its starting to do my head in and my misses is thinking bout getting something else!
Cheers
Simon

The whinning noise that you get when you depress the clutch could be the replease bearing for the clutch, the droaning noise above 60 does it happen in every gear ? or go away if you depress the clutch ?

In general the Polos gearbox is a little notchy, it would crunch into reverse if you don't give it enough time to spin down after depressing the clutch as theres no syncro in reverse.

yup you can't just throw it into reverse as soon as you put your foot down on the clutch, it happens on the 1 litre model aswell, its the most crunchy gearbox i've ever had!
noticeably in reverse but not in other gears

Cheers for the replys,

Listened on the way home from work tonight and the droaning is non clutch related as depressing the clutch makes no difference, it is a progessively loud noise as the car cruises at higher speeds. Only way i can describe it is like a droaning/warble sound possibly coming from rear of car.
Re. the whinning noise, is that an indication of the release bearing giving up soon? its on its original clutch.

If the droaning is coming from the rear of the car my first guess would be wheel bearings/sticking claipers however if you've already had this done it could be the tyres. The sound you describe with the clutch does sound like the release bearing however it is hard to tell without hearing it.

I have the same whining noise on mine, don't notice it all the time, but it does get louder when the clutch pedal is pressed, like yours. Was a bit woried for a while, think i posted something about it on here, and someone said it wasn't anything too bad?
