My drivers window was jammed when I arrived home at 12.00 last night. Really annoyed me. Think my regulator has packed up. Bloody boiling weather and i got to drive round with my window up, look like a right idiot!! My VW dealer gave me a quote of £150 for parts and labour. Anybody else had problems?

I think there have been a few problems documented with window motors and regulators...

My motor and regulator on the driver's side had to be replaced in August last year, the passenger side motor was replaced under warranty not long after I bought the car in 2003, had a couple of the switches replaced at various times...

Just one of those things! The motors simply seem to wear out, driver's side more so because its used all the more often. Regulators appear to have a flawed design haha. But both are expensive when they do break :x

you can do it yourself if you like - but its a ballache to fix - involves taking the door cards off and everything from what i remember from a mates golf, and its very fiddly.

This happened to my last car....

Was on the M25 in the pouring rain just coming over the Dartford bridge to the tolls. Stopped to pay so put window down and it was making a clunking and crunching noise and wouldnt go back up when i drove away from the toll so I was getting soaked!

I'm sure the part cost about £70 VW and my Dad fixed it. (This was last year though but remember it was under £100) You have the by the whole mechanism thing that goes on the inside of the door and it's all laid out on cardboard exactly how it goes in the door. Just make sure you get the part for the correct side of the car!

Think the mechanism in my new car is going already so this time VW can fix it under warrenty. It's happening to my friends car too.

Was told by friend of the family VW mechanic to give it a good old slam and it normally sorts it out haha

May as well try it
