Hi

need to get some new tyres very soon, what would you recommend.
Also it needs new pads, again anyone know of some good ones for
fast road use, that have a fairly good life.
Thought about sometime upgrading the front discs, i just read wardys post, i see he has a 280mm front brake upgrade, any idea what these are.

cheers

I just recently got 2 Toyo T1-S on the front, and I'm well pleased with their looks and performance.

I got a Toyo TS-R on the back recently. Looks good but I prefer Goodyear Egale F1's I have on the front.

Pads... EBC Green Stuff are good if you get fed up with cleaning brake dust off your rims every 10mins. Theres a club discount on them too.

The 280mm Brake setup is the Golf G60 setup, theres loads of info on this if you have a quick search.

I've got Black Diamond pads all round, courtesy of John at 2modified.com. Like the EBC, there is a huge reduction in the amounts of brake dust being kicked off :)

My tyres are Toyo T1S, highly recommended but they wear fast on the front

For the 280mm upgrade, you just need to find some carriers suitable for VAG 280mm discs. So you're looking at Golf\Corrado G60 as a donor car really.

I then fitted Brembo discs and EBC Greenstuff pads. Pretty awesome braking capability to be honest, and I tend to brake quite late! Great initial feel and no dead pedal travel, haul the car down VERY well. How they should be as standard IMO.

Hope this helps.

I've got Faulken tyres, and they're the bees knees. There's so much grip, I couldn't believe it. The downfall is i've got to change them every 5000 miles. But im well happy with them. I'll be using these all the time no matter what car I have. I have got a Polo GTI though, just to make sure.

I got about 6k from my Dunlops (the fronts), looking at the rears I'd say they were pretty much brand new if not completely brand new

I don't do hardly any wheel spin in my car, the odd one here and there, lol. The car just sticks to the road, it's bloody brilliant. 5k is not that much, but it's worth the grip. I payed £46 each last time, thats with discount cause I work in a Land Rover dealership. Don't laugh

Git! Mine were £55 a corner for the fronts, back in May

Tom. My Toyos on the back have about 5mm left on them after 16 months! The fronts obviously take a hammering due to the fwd layout of the car, plus 125bhp going through there hehe

My Toyos lasted a scant twelve months before being replaced on the front :)
