Hello all !

Thought I'd join up to the forum as I've just bought a Polo GTI in silver with 57k FVWSH and recall done. I really really love it! Best looking and best car ive owned by far but I've been reading the forum a lot today and noticed how many gearbox related problems there are.

I want to ask if everyone can vote on this thread and say if 'Yes' they have or 'No' havent had a gearbox problem/failure. This way we can all get a slightly clearer picture on the apparent dilemma. (Bit nervous about putting my foot down now you see!)

no gearbox or clutch issues yet - touch wood.

But I also have major worries about it.

Btw 2001 51 plate - 27k miles.

No Problems, Touch Wood. 54,000 Miles

hey i also have a polo silver gti, i ahve just replace my gearbox and a clutch.i just got the car back 2day,its common fault with the polo's as i got told!make sure u have a warrantly on the car as the new gearbox 4 apolo is nae cheap like..

thats a bit worrying really , although I think its simply luck of the draw, and how people have driven their GTI's

I'm going to ring VW up and ask for a warranty then - see how much it is. Peace of mind at least .. probably comes at a premium though. Im a student so cant have any nasty surprises tbh lol..
