My flat mate has had his seat leon cupra for about 4 weeks now. Went out earlier in it and when he opened his with his remote key fob (with mine parked next to it), mine opened too! WTF! Has anyone experienced this before or knows why it happens? And can i get it fixed? Rather worrying really.

had a little joke about it and said he was gonna follow me home  but in all seriousness i was bit worried! strange thing was tho mine wouldnt open his!?

Phoned VW customer services who were very helpful and logged my problem and said to phone my local retailer (also said he'd never heard of such a problem in his few years there!).

Then phoned retailer who supposedly asked one of the SEAT technicians who said there's nothing they can do. Surely there's something they can do! I mean who knows who else can open my car! What happens if my flat mate goes out and leaves my car open for someone to waltz in and steal my stuff (i know it will lock automatically after a certain period of time but there's still the window of opportunity!).

This isn't over...

You can re sync the remotes and it should stop.

They work on rolling codes and every now and again two codes match. It should only do it for a time and not permanently. But if you get the codes reprogrammed (both) with VAG COM etc then it should be fine.

There are to many remotes out there to have a unique code for every one.

^^ yep as above, they work on same frequency, but the rolling code is the "key" to actually unlocking the car

So i basically need VAG COM to re sync them or just wait a while and it should stop? My local VW were talking crap?

It cant hurt if you know someone local with VAG COM if you dont have it yourself.

I had the same prob with mine, my brothers lupo opened my doors. But i bought my gti from a dealer. One of my keyfobs was broke though. They replaced the keyfob and scrambled my signal and everything is ok now. It could not get pinched anyway due to the vw immob.... Whos listens to alarms going off anyway. Buy a disclock! :)

Unlocking each others cars

Me and my mate both have a GTI, mine is silver and his is red. We can both lock and unlock each others cars with any of our key remotes. I like driving past his house in the dead of night and leaving him a message on his drivers seat for the morning, or indeed borrowing his sub without permission. It can get a bit confusing though when im parked next to his and im trying to unlock mine because they both unlock at the same time.......
