Just had a quick look Alun, but couldn't really see much.

Not too sure what it is really.

Ill have a look in the morn, does not look familiar though :?

that looks to be the 'flap' on top of the steering column that acts as a sort of cover when you use the height adjustment on the steering wheel. it sits on like a hinge and covers the wiring for the clocks....

cant think of anywhere else that would come from and i've had my interior in bits more times than i can remember!!

ICEYPOLO is right, that's exactly what it is and where it goes... but its been broken off or just come unclipped off the top covering surrounding the steering stalks/column, this is where is goes:

if it is broken and does not click back on the top cover, then you need to buy a complete new part, as this bit is part of the top cover and cannot be purchased on its own

2 minutes mate I've just taken a pic of mine, will post it up for comparison :D

EDIT:

Column at lowest height:

Column at highest height:

The plastic part basically hides all the gubbins behind the column away, as described above. Still none the wiser as to how it fits! :?

I need to dust my interior

dust your car Si!

You will need to remove the top and bottom half plastic pieces that cover the steering column... screws can be seen on the bottom half to undo - have a look on the underside

Split them apart and the clip that back in place on the top cover... then replace it back and you should be good to go. Haynes manual for the 6N2 details the removal process of the covers

Hope helps?

you can buy a manual for the 6n2 where you would normally buy any other haynes manual but it doesnt cover the GTI.

dunno if this would make any difference to what you need it for though?

All the dust is from driving about with the window(s) down

Glad to be of assistance :D

TBH though, just about all the interior bits will be the same, it's just the engine bits that will be different.

100% covers the detailing of removing this part and the rest of the interior and virtually much of the GTi too, as is based on the 6n2 model

Its defo handy to have, GTi or not
