Sorry if this is in the wrong section and if its been asked before but i have finally managed to polish my 1st BBS rim but even though i was polishing through the grades of paper from 220 through to 2000 (yes i think it was about 8 grades) and then used a polishing kit (borrowed off my mate) i went through the stages with the 3 polishing mops (sisel?, stitched etc etc) and different polishing compound (Grey, Green, Blue etc) all in the correct order but even when i had finished (and they looked very nice) if you look closely at the rim there are still quite a few light scratches on the rim surface !!! Is this normal ? or should i be able to get a good clean scratch free surface good enough to have a shave in ???
If this is the case, can anyone shine a light on where im going wrong and what i need to do ! i even went through the polishing stages again after i had done to see if that was the problem !!!
Any Help would be much appreciated
Cheers Stu

Should of spent more time with 1200 and 2000 grade, failing that your being too soft when polishing

When I did mine I found it very difficult to get every one of the previous grades scratches out with the new grade, had to go over the rim checking with a strong light each time to make sure, but I still missed some ! had to go back a few grades and start again, a right bloody pain but it was worth it when finished, almost perfect !

Also to rub down evenly, you should regularly change direction
Rub one way, then rub across the last direction (kinda like your chamfering off the last set of scratch marks), and dont dig in with your finger tips try to keep the pressure as even as you can
I know it sounds abit petty for such a simple job, but there is a certain amount of skill involved (although it applies more to body repair)

Looks top mate, see what you ment about tiny scratches they are just swirl marks, youll always have swirl marks on a surface that gets polished.
Good job.
Keep em shiney with that Megs NXT metal polish, who knows after a few goings over by hand it might even come up a little better

Cheers for the feedback guys, still only on my second rim, not enough hours in the day, oh well, they will get done sooner rather than later
