Removed my rear 'POLO' badge - controversial!

Its been on the cards for some time now, and today it has finally happened. I removed the rear 'POLO' lettering from the bootlid with the aid of MintySE's heat gun and some red cotton :D

Removed the badge at his place before heading home and removing the glue before finally giving the car a swift wash. What's so controversial about all that you might wonder?

My Mum came out to see what I was up to, as I had spent half an hour at the back of the car messing around (I was removing the residual glue with the aid of some Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover*) and went off on one because I've taken the badge off!

Apparently I have "de-valued the car", made it "almost impossible to sell on", "spoiled it" and "will only go and buy another POLO badge before selling up in the future". Also, its "just not right"

FFS. I tried to explain that it's what I want and that it makes no difference whatsoever to the value of the car, but parents *tsch*... I know they mean well but arrrrgh!! You know? :|

Anyway. Its what I think that counts, and I think it looks cool. Besides, I can't put the lettering back on as they have now found a new home on MintySE's tailgate! :P

It looks good. I was tempted to keep my rear completed debadged cept for the VW. Don't listen to your parents, as long as you like it screw everyone else :D

Exactly. I don't expect them to like my efforts in modifying the Polo, it'd just be nice if they didn't go mad every time I make a change

I was tempted to remove the GTi badges from front and rear but I'm keeping them now, have some other badgesto go on at some point but need to prep and paint them first

Lol when i do stuff to mine or tell them about stuff my dad understands, but my mum just laughs at me and doesn't understand why i wouldn't be happy with it just as it is!

Gotta love 'em!

That's parents for you mate. 8)

My response when they start giving me grief about what i do to my car is to ask them if they'd rather i spent if on cigarettes and drugs or prefer me to come home drunk every nite.

That usually shuts them up. 8)

Everyone said the same to me about smoothing my bumpers, then once I got it done they all agreed that it looks better

I haven't actually used a heat gun/hairdryer etc yet to get any badges off, when I took the VW badge of the rear to colour code it I just pulled it off, and for the Polo badge I just sawed through it with a bit of cotton 8)

It does look better though

Parents are a different generation mate, most dont have a clue

As for debadging, not to my taste because Max power boys do it, but it's your car so noone can tell you what to do.

parents.......mines are quite cool with the modifying, they'd rather me do that than waste money smoking, drinking etc, hell my mum even helped me de and re badge my car

debadging aids in that "smooth" look that alot of people go for!!
i re-badged the back of the ibiza with just IBIZA in the middle under the seat badge (in the style of the cupra ibiza) when i first had it but after a while i noticed alot of people round my way spacing out astra, or peugeot!

so i decided that the badges would have to go and i'm much happier now!! looks much cleaner in my opinion!!

It seems the majority of you are still living with parents?

I remember those days and questions. Even though it is your money and you can decide what to do with it, you still get asked "what are you doing that for?"

The only solution to not being answerable to your parent(s) is to get the hell outta there !!

Haha. The black badges thing actually goes back to the performance Golf mk3 models, or so I have been told. Volkswagen used to fit black badges to the GTi?

I've got some to go on mine :)

I couldn't afford a car and a flat. And I'd rather have a car any day
