Just wondering, has anyone ever attempted to remove their headlights?

I need to do so and was wondering that do you only have to remove the front bumper, and simply undo the bolts you see for the headlights and prise the unit out?

My reason for asking is because they look ever so close to the wing's, and the levelling motors are probably sitting more inwards, so would i also need to remove the wings?

Any advice or help to removing these would be great! thanks

Take the bumper off, few screws hold the headlight unit in - pull it out....simple-ish!

The levelling motors are actually in headlight unit.

Cheers Dino , so these levelling motors, can they be removed easily from the original headlights and applied to another headlight unit?

no idea, never had a look at the levellers - just know where they are

If your headllights are "Valeo" then removing the leveling motors is very easy and you don't have to remove the headlights. If not, then these motors can't be taken off

VWclub.gr - My headlight's are the Valeo ones. I'm fitting the same headlights as you - the FK smoked ones!

Sorry to sound stupid but I dont know what the levelling motor looks like. Can you describe where it would be? or can it be seen in the picture of my lights below? as I need to remove and fit it to the FK ones.

No it can't be seen from the front - look behind the caps on the rear of the headlight unit. it's under one of them

There are 3 caps. The 2 of them are for changing the bulbs. The other one is for the motor. It is the centre one. It is very easy to remove it and fit it in your new headlights.

Well i finally got the time to fit the lights yesterday. Really like them Just not so happy about how they fit.

They seem to sit too far in at the bottom and you can see a gap. Ive spent about 1 hour trying to adjust them perfectly in proportion to the panels. However at the bottom of the bumper, a gap is visible. I think its even with the standard lights but cant remember, maybe its a bit amplified as they show up more than the standard ones on a silver car. Does anyone else have this sort of gap?

its where the bottom part of the bumper (of the larger light) meets the wing!

I have the same problem but I thought it was because of my bumper which has been changed

Hmm, guess it may just be the FK lights then. Ill get some pics up of it. Ive got the genuine factory bumper and i still have it.

I think I will try using thick washer's between the bottom bolts and the lamp. This way the headlight unit at the bottom will raise slightly so that there is no gap

Mine has a bit of a gap with standard lights and bumper, you can make it out in these pics:

were the new lights easy to fit? is it just a straight swap?
