Welcome to the Forum!!
When i got mine just over 16 months ago, it had 34000 miles on the clock on a Y plate. If i was you i would try and find one below 50000 miles, which shouldn't be too difficult.
If you find one just check the documentation carefully. One of the common faults on the GTI was the gearbox/clutch!! ( I think??).
I'm sure some of the other guys will confirm this and be more specific!!

Hope you enjoy the site and find a car!!!!

hi and welcome
They did a recall on the pedal box, so make sure this is done (it should be i the history, or have a stamp under the carpet in the boot), apart from that the regular stuff of it being serviced regularly etc etc.
I'd also try to get one with as many extras as possible. E.g. leather etc.
Good luck on the hunt.

Welcome to UK-P
Things to look out for, well theres the usual stuff that applies to any used car, service history, check the bodywork, have a test drive and ensure everything works etc etc.
Unique to the GTi are a potentially fragile gearbox (mine's OK), pedal box recall, check the clutch works smoothly and not too heavy (it will be a
bit heavier) and lastly the standard BBS alloys are known to be affected by corrosion
Great cars though, hope you get a good one!
Cheers

I bought mine on 48k, so long as it has Service History the mileage shouldn't matter too much, all depends on whether you'd like one with lower mileage or not
5k should get you a nice one I should think, just don't rush into anything and make sure you take it for a test drive etc, don't think there's anything else really other than what's been mentioned.
